4x02 ARE YOU THERE GOD? IT'S ME, DEAN WINCHESTER

TEASER
INT. LOWRY RESIDENCE - NIGHT
We open to a woman, OLIVIA LOWRY, asleep on the couch. A book lies across her chest called "All Secret Teachings of All Ages". Her tv is on showing the Three Stoges, also asleep. Suddenly the screen goes to white noise and flickering lights can be heard. As the lights begin to flicker, OLIVIA wakes up. She sits up, looking around worried. Suddenly, when she breathes out it shows it's become cold in the room making her breathe turn to a whisp of smoke. She looks down at it. As she walks over to her closet the phone rings, and her machine answers it.
OLIVIA (voicemail)
Hay, it's Olivia.
She moves her clothes aside and opens the back wall and it shows an arsenal of weapons. She pulls out a device.
OLIVIA (voicemail)
I'm not in, leave a message.
She turns around with the device as we hear it start up and we now see it's an EMF meter and it's going off on the highest of levels, showing she's definitely not alone in her house. She looks around as we can hear the person calling leaving a message.
BOBBY (on phone)
Olivia, it's Bobby. Call me back would you?
She grabs a riffle and begins to load it up.
BOBBY (on phone)
I got something big and I could use your help.
The EMF can still be heard in the background as OLIVIA now aims her weapon in front of her. She begins to walk around her appartment, looking for the spirit. Suddenly a man appears to her right and she turns around to him, shocked.
OLIVIA
You.
The man looks young, and he's dirty and bloody. He looks at her with a sad face. After a second OLIVIA begin to run backwards, and shooting off a round of salt at the spirit making him disappear. She grabs a bag of salt and begins to frantically pour it on the floor between her livingroom and bedroom, sealing her off from the spirit. Just as she's completed the line we see a pair of feet on the other side. OLIVIA, scared, looks up at him slowly. She stands up, aiming her gun at the man, shaking her head, scared and near tears.
OLIVIA
I'm sorry.
While keeping her eyes on the man, she backs away from him, towards the closet.
OLIVIA
I'm so sorry.
Then she turns around and a young woman, also a dirty and bloody spirit, stands before her. Before OLIVIA gets a chance to react the woman shoves her hand into OLIVIA and OLIVIA begins to scream with pain.
END TEASER
INT. BOBBY'S PLACE - DAY
BOBBY is sitting at his desk in the livingroom, reading a book, while DEAN and SAM are in the kitchen, arguing.
SAM (V.O)
Well, then tell me what else it could have been.
DEAN (V.O)
Look, all I know is that I was not groped by an angel.
BOBBY flips a page in his book, while listening to the boys.
SAM (V.O)
Ok, look Dean. Why do you think this Castiel would lie to you about it?
DEAN (V.O)
Maybe he's some kind of demon.
BOBBY looks up from his book, over at the boys.
INT. BOBBY'S PLACE; KITCHEN
SAM is sitting by the table, while DEAN is pacing slowly.
DEAN
Demons lie.
SAM throws his head back, annoyed.
SAM
A demon who's immune to salt rounds? And devil's traps? And Ruby's knife?
DEAN, who's moved over to the kitchen counter picks up a piece of pizza and smelt it and then throws it back in the box.
SAM
Dean, Lilith is scared of that thing.
DEAN
Don't you think that if angels were real that some hunter, somewhere, would have seen one? At some point, ever!
SAM
Yeah. You just did, Dean.
DEAN
I'm trying to come up with a theory here, ok, work with me.
SAM
Dean, we have a theory.
DEAN
Yeah, one with a little less fairy dust on it, please.
SAM
Ok, look. I'm not saying we know for sure I'm just saying that I think we-
DEAN
Okay, okay, that's the point. We don't know for sure so I'm not gonna believe this thing is a freaking "angel of the lord" because it said so.
BOBBY
You two chuckleheads wanna keep arguing religion, or you wanna come look at this?
DEAN looks from BOBBY to SAM, who's looking very annoyed. They walk over to BOBBY, in the livingroom.
INT. BOBBY'S PLACE; LIVINGROOM
As the boys walk up to BOBBY at his desk, he turns the book he was reading around so they can see it.
BOBBY
I got stacks of lore. Biblical, pre-Biblical, some of it's in damn cuneiform.
DEAN touches the mark on his arm as he looks at the pages of the book BOBBY shows them. We see a drawing on the pages of an angel pulling a human out of hell by touching his upper arm just like where DEAN was touched.
BOBBY
It all says an angel can snatch a soul from the pit.
DEAN
What else?
BOBBY
What else, what?
DEAN
What else could do it?
BOBBY
Airlift your ass out of the hot box? As far as I can tell, nothing.
He sits back in his chair, eyes still on the boys. SAM turns to DEAN, a small smile playing on his lips. DEAN looks sceptical.
SAM
Dean, this is good news.
DEAN
How?
SAM
Because for once this isn't another round of demon crap. I mean, maybe you were saved by one of the good guys, you know?
DEAN doesn't look like he's aggreeing with him.
DEAN
Okay. Say it's true. Say, there are angels. Then what? There's a God?
BOBBY
This point, Vegas money's on "yeah".
DEAN smiles, and turns away from them.
DEAN
I don't know guys.
SAM
Ok, look. I- I know you're not all choirboy about this stuff but this is becoming less and less about faith, and more and more about proof.
DEAN turns around at this.
DEAN
Proof?
SAM
Yes.
DEAN
Proof that there's a God out there that actually gives a crap about me, personally? I'm sorry, but I'm not buying it.
SAM
Why not?
DEAN
Because why me? If there's a God out there, why would he give a crap about me?
SAM
Dean.
DEAN
I mean, I've saved some people, okay. I figure I've made up for the, for the stealing and the, and the ditching chicks. But why do I deserve to get saved? I'm just a regular guy.
SAM
Well, aparently you're a regular guy that's important to the man upstairs.
DEAN
Well, that creeps me out. I mean, I don't like getting singled out at birthday parties, much less by... God.
SAM
Ok, well too bad, Dean. Because I think he wants you to strap on your party hat.
DEAN clears his throat and calms down a bit with that.
DEAN
Fine. What do we know about angels?
SAM looks over at BOBBY, who's been quiet during all this, just taking it all in. He sits up in his chair with this question though, and grabs a pile of books from the side of his desk and puts it in front of him with a loud thud.
BOBBY
Start reading.
SAM frowns at that and DEAN turns to him, pointing.
DEAN
You're gonna get me some pie.
He slams his hand down on the book on the top of the pile, grabs it and then walks off to the kitchen, leaving SAM pouting and sharing a look with BOBBY.
EXT. STORE
SAM parks the IMPALA while on the phone with DEAN. He sighs, annoyed.
SAM
Yes, Dean. I'll get the chips.
He gets out of the car while listening to DEAN.
SAM
Dude, when have I ever forgotten the pie?
(...)
Exactly.
He closes the door and turns around to the building and notices RUBY standing by the side of it, looking over at him. They keep eyecontact as SAM finishes with DEAN.
SAM
I gotta go.
(...)
Yeah, alright. Bye.
He hangs up, eyes still on RUBY. He throws a glance to the side and then with a frown at her appearance, he walks over to her.
SAM
Ruby.
RUBY
So, is it true?
SAM
Is what true?
RUBY
Did an angel rescue Dean?
A bell can be heard from the store.
SAM
You heard.
A man, who just existed the store walks past them and mumbles something. SAM and RUBY stay quiet until he's walked away.
RUBY
Who hasn't?
SAM
We're not a hundred percent sure but I think so.
RUBY looks scared at that.
RUBY
Ok. Bye Sam.
She begins to walk off.
SAM
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. What's go- Wait.
He grabs her arm and she spins around looking at him.
SAM
What's going on?
RUBY
Sam. They're angels, I'm a demon. They're not gonna care if I'm being helpful. They smite first and then they ask questions later.
SAM takes that in for a second.
SAM
What do you know about them?
RUBY
Not much. I've never met one, and I don't really wanna. But all I know is that they scare the holy hell out of me. Watch yourself, Sam.
SAM scoffs at that.
SAM
I'm not scared of angels.
RUBY looks at him for a moment and then she turns around and walks away leaving SAM confused.
EXT. BOBBY'S PLACE
BOBBY and DEAN is loading up BOBBY's car, getting ready to head out, as SAM pulls up in the IMPALA. BOBBY puts the bag he was carrying into the open trunk of his car and walks over to SAM, leaning on the passenger sidewindow.
BOBBY
Keep your engine running.
SAM looks at him and then over at DEAN, confused.
SAM
Why? What's going on?
BOBBY
I've got a friend one state over, Olivia Lowry. I've been trying to reach her for three days on this angel thing. It's not like her to ignore this many calls.
SAM
Olivia Lowry. A hunter, right?
BOBBY
Yeah. We're gonna go check on her. You guys follow me.
SAM nods, agreeing with him. He goes back to his car and DEAN comes around to the drivers side.
DEAN
Scoot over.
SAM
Yeah.
He opens the door as SAM moves over to the passangerside. DEAN sits in and SAM hands him the bag from the store. With a little smile DEAN begins rummaging through it, looking for the pie. After a few moments he stops, and the smile is gone.
DEAN
Dude.
SAM
Yeah?
DEAN
Where's the pie?
He looks up at SAM.
INT. LOWRY RESIDENCE
BOBBY comes through the front door, followed closely by DEAN and SAM. They're armed and ready for anything as they begin to walk into the house.
BOBBY
Olivia?
As they come further into the appartment, BOBBY spots something off screen. He stops in his tracks and the boys looks over in the same direction, also stopping. The camera changes angle and we see all three of them looking at something in the foreground that the camera isn't focusing on. Obviously it's OLIVIA's body as we can see the color red on the object out of focus as well, indicating blood. BOBBY immedietly walks out, leaving the boys behind. DEAN calls out after him as he leaves, but he ignores him.
DEAN
Bobby?
SAM begins to walk towards OLIVIA's body and DEAN soon follows. SAM notices the saltline that OLIVIA poured out between the bedroom and livingroom earlier.
SAM
Saltline.
The camera pans down and shows them stepping over it. Then we see OLIVIA for a brief moment and she has been completely split open, her ribcage forced open, and there's blood all around her. Her weapon still lying on the floor next to her. DEAN walks around her and SAM bends down by her feet, letting his riffle rest against his shoulder. They exchange a look and then DEAN walks over to her weapons in the closet, picking up the EMF meter.
DEAN
Olivia was rocking the EMF meter.
He holds it up for SAM who nods.
SAM
Spirit activity.
DEAN puts back the EMF and begins to walk back the way he came from.
DEAN
Yeah, on steroids. I've never seen a ghost do this to a person.
He stops by OLIVIA, looking down on her. We hear the door open and BOBBY comes back in.
DEAN
Bobby, you alright?
SAM turns around and stands up again looking over at BOBBY, who's holding his cellphone in his hand, looking worried.
BOBBY
I called some hunters nearby-
DEAN
Good. We could use the help.
BOBBY
Except, they ain't answering their phones either.
He puts the phone back into his coat. He seems very taken by all this, and by loosing a friend.
SAM
Something's up, huh?
BOBBY
You think?
He walks out again and SAM looks over at DEAN, who looks down on OLIVIA's body.
EXT. JED'S HOUSE - DAY
We hear the phone ringing inside.
INT. JED'S HOUSE
The TV only shows white noise, and phone continues to ring. The camera pans from the TV and down on the floor, showing a lamp knocked over with blood on it, as well as blood on the floor.
JED (on machine)
Yeah, this is Jed. I'm not around, uh, leave a message.
The camera moves closer and we see the answering machine is on the floor, along with a book.
DEAN (on machine)
Jed, Dean Winchester again.
We get a close up on the lamp with blood on it.
DEAN (on machine)
Friend of Bobby Singer's.
We get a shot of the kitchen floor, where blood and salt is mixed and an empty rocksalt shell lies among it.
DEAN (on machine)
Look, we think something's happening.
We see the riffle lying in blood on the floor, and then an arm lying in a lot of blood.
DEAN (on machine)
We think it's happening to hunters.
We get a shot of a body on the floor, presumably JED. Like OLIVIA, his ribcage is torn open.
DEAN (on machine)
Just wanna make sure you're okay. Call me back.
We get an areal shot of JED, lying on the kitchen floor, his weapon just out of reach and blood everywhere.
EXT. JED'S HOUSE - NIGHT
The IMPALA is parked out front and SAM and DEAN is walking down the steps to the front door. DEAN is on the phone with BOBBY.
DEAN
Yeah, we're at Jed's. It's not pretty. He looks even worse than Olivia, what about you?
BOBBY (over phone)
I checked on Carl Bates and R.C Adams-
INT. BOBBY'S CAR
BOBBY
-they've re-decorated. In red.
EXT. JED'S HOUSE
DEAN indicates to SAM that BOBBY's found the same deal as them.
DEAN
What the hell's going on here, Bobby? Why do a bunch of ghosts suddenly want to gank off-duty hunters?
We hear SAM opening his door to the IMPALA.
BOBBY (over phone)
I don't know.
INT. BOBBY'S CAR
BOBBY
But until we find out, you guys better your asses to my place.
EXT. JED'S HOUSE
We hear SAM closing his door, and DEAN has opened his own.
DEAN
We're on our way.
He get into the car and hangs up.
EXT. GAS STATION - NIGHT
The IMPALA pulls up from the road and we see that it's SAM behind the wheels and DEAN is asleep, hanging his head halfway out the window. SAM pulls up to the pumps and gets out. As he takes one of them to fill up the IMPALA's tank we get a shoot of him further away and a figure suddenly shows up in the foreground, seems someone's watching the boys. SAM starts filling the tank with gas and looks over at the building, seeing the sign for the restrooms. As he begins to walk away we see the figure is still watching. The camera pans over the IMPALA, following SAM and moving over to DEAN who's still asleep.
INT. GAS STATION; RESTROOMS
SAM is washing his hands. As the camera is focusing on his hands we see a cloud of smoke from his breathe, indicating it's suddenly become very cold. SAM stops what he's doing, obviously noticing this too. The camera pans up to his face as he shuts off the water and we hear the mirror begin to freeze over. SAM looks up at it and the camera moves around to gives us a shot over his shoulder, showing the entire mirror is now covered in ice. SAM moves his hand up and drags it right to left, removing the ice. As he gets to the last part we get a close look and suddenly AGENT VICTOR HENRIKSEN can be seen standing behind him in the mirror. SAM flinches with the shock of seeing him. He turns around to look at him.
HENRIKSEN
Hiya Sam. It's been a while.
SAM stares at him, shocked.
FLASHBACK to "JUS IN BELLO" when HENRIKSEN comes into BELA's hotelroom, where SAM and DEAN is lying on the floor, pinned by the cops.
HENRIKSEN
Hi guys. It's been a while.
We flash to the moment HENRIKSEN shoots the sheriff when possessed by a demon later in that episode. We then flash to HENRIKSEN smiling at DEAN, same episode. Then we flash to when he shoots one of the people possessed by demons, who's invading the police department. Then we flash to HENRIKSEN, who's just been told about what's really out there by SAM and DEAN.
HENRIKSEN
So how do we survive?
INT. GAS STATION; RESTROOM
SAM
Henriksen. Are you- Did you-
We see HENRIKSEN flash in and out quickly, showing he's a ghost.
HENRIKSEN
I didn't survive. If that's what you're asking.
SAM apologizes to him, remembering what happened to HENRIKSEN and the others, feeling guilty.
SAM
I'm sorry.
HENRIKSEN
I know you are.
SAM
Look, if we'd known Lilith was coming we-
HENRIKSEN
You wouldn't have left half a dozen innocent people in that police station to die in your place. You did this to me.
SAM looks at him sadly, feeling guiltridden.
HENRIKSEN
It was your fault. She was after you and I payed the price.
SAM
I-
HENRIKSEN
You left us there to die!
HENRIKSEN grabs SAM and throws him into the lockers. He moves over and pins SAM, and both SAM and the camera notices a burn mark on HENRIKSEN's hand. HENRIKSEN slams SAM into the wall next to the lockers and then throws him into a mirror, shattering it. Before SAM falls to the floor, HENRIKSEN grabs him from behind and slams his face down into the sink twice before throwing him on the floor. SAM holds his hands up in front of his face and looks up at HENRIKSEN. As HENRIKSEN is standing over him, about to take a step forward a shot is hear and HENRIKSEN disappears. DEAN shows up a second later, moving over to where HENRIKSEN was standing, looking around. He relaxes a bit and looks down at SAM on the floor.
INT. BOBBY'S HOUSE
All the lights at BOBBY's place is flickering. The camera pans around and we see BOBBY looking into his livingroom, noticing this. He blows out a breathe and it comes out in a whisp of smoke, a sign of coldness and the presence of ghosts. We hear children's laughs echo. BOBBY moves over to the fireplace and grabs one of the rotiron tools. We hear childen lauging again. BOBBY begins walking towards his kitchen, looking around, following the sound of the childen's laughter. Suddenly the radio turns on to static and BOBBY looks over at it. BOBBY continues walking into the kitchen, holding the weapon ready to strike. The camera moves around BOBBY and we hear the childern's laughter again, now behind him. He looks back and then walks towards the door, then we hear the laughter coming from the stairs' direction, and BOBBY walks slowly towards it. When reaching the door before the stairs he causiously walks through it. He walks over to stand by the foot of the stairs and we hear a thump from upstairs. He looks up and suddenly a ball begins to bounce down the stairs to him. With wide eyes, he watches it decend. It finally lands and stops between his legs and he stands and stares at it for a moment. Then he turns around and comes face to face with two twin girls, probably around 10 years old. Like the ghosts OLIVIA saw, these girls are dirty, as are their dresses that once were white. They look at him with a hard eyes.
EXT. ROAD - NIGHT
The IMPALA is speeding down the road.
INT. IMPALA
DEAN is behind the wheels again, removing his phone from his ear.
DEAN
Damn it Bobby, pick up.
He redials. As we hear the phone begin to ring DEAN throws SAM a glance.
DEAN
How are you feeling, huh? How many fingers am I holding up?
SAM
None. I'll be fine, Dean.
DEAN
Henriksen?
SAM
Yup.
DEAN
Why? What did he want?
SAM
Revenge 'cause we got him killed.
DEAN
Sam.
SAM
Well, we did, Dean.
DEAN looks over at him and hangs up his phone to be able to focus on SAM completely besides driving.
DEAN
Alright. Stop right there. Whatever the hell is going on, it's happening to us now, okay? I can't get ahold of Bobby so if you're not thinking answers, don't think at all.
EXT. ROAD - DAY
The IMPALA speeds down the road.
INT. BOBBY'S HOUSE
DEAN enters, weapon in hand, closely followed by SAM who's also armed.
DEAN
Bobby?
SAM moves through the kitchen, followed by DEAN and they look into the livingroom. They begin to walk in, SAM first. DEAN notices something off screen over by the stairs and snaps his fingers at SAM, indicating whatever it is he's seen. The camera moves down to the bottom of the stairs and we see the poker from the fireplace BOBBY was holding earlier lying on the floor. They move over to it and DEAN kneels down, checking it. He points up and in a hushed voice tells SAM they're splitting up.
DEAN
I'll go. You check outside.
SAM walks to the backdoor and DEAN begins to climb the stairs slowly, keeping his eyes on the top of them.
EXT. BOBBY'S HOUSE
SAM is walking down the junkyard among the cars, looking for BOBBY but there's no sign of him.
SAM
Bobby? Bobby?
As he passes a pile of cars, the camera moves up to one of them and we see that inside it is BOBBY on his back, and the twins are pinning him down, covering his mouth to make sure he can't call out for SAM.
INT. BOBBY'S HOUSE; UPSTAIRS
DEAN comes around the corner from the stairs, weapon at the ready.
DEAN
Bobby?
Suddenly all doors in the hallway is slammed shut, except the one at the end of it, which opens up slowly instead. DEAN watches it with suspision and then slowly begins to walk towards it.
DEAN
Come out, come out, whoever you are.
Suddenly his breathe turns cold and he stops walking. Behind him we now see a form appearing.
MEG
Dean Winchester.
DEAN begins to turn around to her.
MEG
Still so bossy.
She looks at him with a smile as as he turns to face her completely, raising his weapon at her. She's dressed in dirty clothes and her hair looks much different from season 1, it now goes down to her shoulders. Unlike the other ghosts she doesn't look as dirty.
MEG
You don't recognize me?
The screen flashes a few times to MEG in "SHADOW", smiling at the boys.
MEG
This is what I looked like before that demon cut off my hair and dressed me like a slut.
FLASHBACK to "SALVATION" when MEG kicks BOBBY's door down and walks in. We flash to "SHADOW" when SAM and DEAN ran into MEG in the bar.
MEG
This is Dean?
We flash to "SALVATION" when MEG is being exorsized by SAM and the black smoke begins to exit her while she screams.
INT. BOBBY'S HOUSE; UPSTAIRS
DEAN
Meg?
She looks at him for a moment and then she breaks into a big smile.
MEG
Hi.
DEAN looks at her unbelievingly. She takes a few steps towards him with her hands in the air.
MEG
It's okay. I'm not a demon.
DEAN
You're the girl the demon possessed.
She takes down her hands.
MEG
Meg Masters. Nice to finally talk to you when I'm not... you know... choking on my own blood.
She takes a step more and DEAN begins to back away, still holding his riffle pointed at her, confused by the situation.
MEG
It's okay. Seriously, I'm just a college girl. Sorry, was. I was walking home one night and got jumped by all this smoke. Next thing you know, I'm a prisoner.
She brings her left hand to her temple.
MEG
In here. Now, I was awake. I had to watch while she murdered people.
DEAN takes this all in with guilt and regret.
DEAN
I'm sorry.
MEG
Oh, yeah? So sorry you had me thrown off a building?
The screen flashes to the moment MEG crashes through the windows of the building in "SHADOW" and falls to the sidewalk below in.
DEAN
Well, we thought-
MEG
No, you didn't think! I kept waiting, praying. I was trapped in there, screaming at you "just help me, please!"! You're supposed to help people, Dean. Why didn't you help me?
DEAN
I- I'm sorry.
MEG
Stop saying you're sorry!
She hits him hard and he falls to the floor. He raises up on his hands.
DEAN
Meg. Meg...
She kicks him in the face causing him to fall backwards again. She kicks away his riffle as he rolls over on his side, grunting from the pain. She takes a few steps towards him and he holds out his hand to her as he rolls to his back to look up at her.
DEAN
We didn't know!
He raises himself up on his side, as she bends down in front of him to face him.
MEG
No.. You just attacked. Did you ever think there was a girl in here?
He just watches her.
MEG
No. You just charged in, slashing and burning. You think you're some kind of hero?
DEAN
No, I don't.
She grabs him by his jacket and pulls him closer to her face.
MEG
You're damn right.
DEAN looks down at her hand and we see the same brand on her hand as VICTOR had on his.
MEG
Do you have any idea what it's like to be ridden for months by pure evil... while your family has no idea what happened to you?
DEAN
We did the best we could.
She slams him to the floor at that respons and stands up again and kicks him hard.
EXT. BOBBY'S HOUSE
We're inside the car where BOBBY is pinned down by the GHOST GIRLS.
GHOST GIRL #1
Are you scared, Bobby?
GHOST GIRL #2
We were scared, Bobby.
GHOST GIRL #1
When the monster came for us.
GHOST GIRL #2
And grabbed us tight.
GHOST GIRL #1
And we couldn't even scream.
GHOST GIRL #2
You were right there, Bobby.
GHOST GIRL #1
You were in the house.
GHOST GIRL #2
You were so close.
Outside SAM suddenly notice his breathe turning into a whisp of a cloud, indicating he's close to the ghosts. He turns around a few times, looking around. He then goes for a trunk of a car, leaning into it.
SAM
Bobby?
He walks to the side of the old car.
GHOST GIRL #1
You could have saved us, Bobby.
SAM grabs a iron stick and walks back to the trunk.
SAM
I'm here, Bobby.
GHOST GIRL #1
You walked right past that door.
SAM begins to slam the iron stick into the bottom of the trunkdoor, to get it open.
GHOST GIRL #2
The monster had us..
GHOST GIRL #1
And you didn't find us.
SAM gets the trunk open, but it's empty. He looks around for other options.
GHOST GIRL #2
And now they won't find you.
GHOST GIRL #2 moves her other hand and holds BOBBY's nose so he can't breathe.
SAM forces another trunk opened but it's also empty.
INT. BOBBY'S HOUSE; UPSTAIRS
DEAN is on his stomach, as he raises up on his elbows he shakes his head to clear it. MEG is standing by his feet.
MEG
It wasn't just me, Dean. I had a sister.
DEAN collapses to the floor again, rolling to his side touching his stomach.
MEG
A little sister. She worshipped me.
DEAN looks up at her.
You know how little siblings are, right? How they'll do anything for you. She was never the same after I disappeared. She just... she just got lost. And when my body was lying in the morgue. Beat up. Broken.
DEAN
Meg..
He slowly turns away from her on his elbows.
MEG
Do you know what that did to her? She killed herself!
She kicks him hard again causing him to fall down on his stomach again.
MEG
Because of you, Dean! Because all you were thinking about was your family, your revenge and your demons. 50 words of latin a little soon and I'd still be alive.
DEAN looks up at her again.
MEG
My baby sister would still be alive. That blood is on your hands, Dean!
DEAN
You're right.
She kicks him hard again.
EXT. BOBBY'S HOUSE
SAM gets another trunk open, but again, it's empty. He looks around frantically. Then he notices the rearview mirror on the car BOBBY's in. It's covered in ice.
SAM
Bobby! Hold on, Bobby!
He runs around the pile to the rear of the car and climbs up.
SAM
I'm coming!
He looks into the car and sees BOBBY.
SAM
Bobby!
He slams in the iron stick between the rear doors and we see the twins sitting on either side of BOBBY while he's lying on his back. They turn their heads to SAM and he is thrown back. He lands on a nearby car's windshield. Before he has a chance to move, GHOST GIRL #1 is sitting over him. She tries to grab him but he rams her with his iron stick and she disappears. He looks up and see the other GHOST GIRL sittnig in the doorway of the car BOBBY's in, looking down on him. Before she goes to attack him, BOBBY rams her with another iron stick causing her to disappear as well. BOBBY looks down on SAM, breathing heavily.
INT. BOBBY'S HOUSE; UPSTAIRS
DEAN crawls on his hands and knees into the room at the end of the hall, holding out his left hand at MEG in surrender. MEG stands in the doorway, leaning on it. He slowly falls to the floor and as he turns to his back, he pulls out a gun, and aims it at her. MEG pushes off the doorway and walks into the room, smiling at that.
MEG
Come on, Dean. Did your brain get french-fried in hell? You can't shoot me with bullets.
DEAN
I'm not shooting you.
He suddenly raises his gun to the ceiling, and as MEG looks up, DEAN shoots the wire an old circle-formed iron lamp and it falls over her causing her to disappear. DEAN covers his head as it crashes to the floor. He looks up to see the results.
DEAN
Iron.
He rolls over to his back, holding his stomach and grunting at the pain.
INT. BOBBY'S HOUSE; LIVINGROOM
BOBBY is standing by his desk, that's covered with books and papers and SAM is pacing behind him. DEAN is sitting on the couch loading up the weapons.
SAM
So they're all people we know?
DEAN
Not just know. People we couldn't save.
BOBBY looks over at DEAN at that comment.
DEAN
Hey, I saw something on Meg. Did she have a tattoo when she was alive?
SAM
I don't think so.
DEAN
It was like a, a mark on her hand. Almost like a brand.
He indicates his own hand.
SAM suddenly remembers his encounter with HENRIKSEN.
SAM
I saw a mark, too, on Henriksen.
BOBBY
What'd it look like?
SAM
Uh, paper?
SAM walks up to the side of the desk and BOBBY hands him a piece of paper.
SAM
Thanks.
SAM begins to draw the mark while BOBBY watches and DEAN loads a round into the chamber of the riffle. When finished, SAM holds up the drawing for DEAN to see.
DEAN
That's it.
SAM hands the drawing to BOBBY who studies it for a moment.
BOBBY
I may have seen this before.
He goes over to the bookshelf next to the fireplace while DEAN hands SAM the riffle he just loaded. Just as BOBBY grabs two books and SAM takes the weapon, all the light begins to flicker. DEAN quickly pulles out another riffle and looks around.
BOBBY
We've gotta move.
SAM
Whoa.
He hands the books to SAM and goes back to the shelf for more books.
BOBBY
Follow me.
SAM
Okay. Where are we going?
With two more books in hand BOBBY walks over to the desk quickly looking over at SAM.
BOBBY
Someplace safe, you idjit.
INT. BASEMENT
BOBBY, DEAN and SAM comes down the stairs and quickly goes to a wall located just to the backright of the stairs. BOBBY comes up to an iron door and grabs the handle. As the boys come up behind him, they look around the door. BOBBY pulls it open and we see the shadow of a big fan spinning in the ceiling, and there's marks on the floor. DEAN looks back at SAM and they share a look and then they head into the room, past BOBBY.
INT. PANIC ROOM
The camera pans up and shows up that there is markings melded into the grill below the fan. As the camera moves back down the lights are turned on and we see the same markings on the floor. It's two Devil's Traps. The trap on the floor, covers the entire room, which is cylinder formed. As the camera moves over the walls we see three large cabinets well stocked with weapons of all kinds. Then there's a desk with a chair and a board above it with clippings and such. After that there's shelfs with canned food, a cot, another desk with radios and clippings/papers on the wall above it, as well as books and such on the table. And after that there's a sofa with a poster of Bo Derek from the movie "10". And then you're back at the door again.
The boys looks around the room, taking it all in in surprise and awe. BOBBY closes the door and locks it. SAM walks up to one of the walls, touching it, while BOBBY puts down the books he brought with him. SAM turns to BOBBY, motioning to the walls.
SAM
Bobby, is this-
BOBBY
Solid iron. Completely coated in salt. 100% ghost-proof.
SAM
You built a panic room?
SAM's impressed at this and BOBBY just kind of shrugs it off.
BOBBY
I had a weekend off.
SAM smiles at that.
DEAN
Bobby.
BOBBY looks over at DEAN who's now holding one of the big riffles.
BOBBY
What?
DEAN looks from the weapon to BOBBY, and smiles with a dreamy look on his face.
DEAN
You're awesome.
BOBBY just looks at him while SAM smiles. DEAN throws SAM a glance and then looks down at the weapon in his hand and up at BOBBY, laughing a bit. Suddenly his eyebrows furrows when he notices something behind BOBBY.
DEAN
Oh.
BOBBY looks around and we see it's the poster of Bo Derek that DEAN has noticed. DEAN looks at BOBBY, not sure what to say about that.
CUT TO: LATER
DEAN and SAM is sitting by the second desk, fixing saltrounds for their weapons. They share a look and DEAN clearly has something on his mind, but he doesn't say anything and goes back to fixing the round. After a few seconds he finally can't keep quiet anymore.
DEAN
See, this is why I can't get behind God.
BOBBY looks up from the other desk, where's he doing research.
SAM
What are you talking about?
DEAN
If he doesn't exist, fine. Bad crap happens to good people. That's how it is.
He looks over at BOBBY and then back at SAM.
DEAN
There's no rhyme or reason, just random, horrible, evil.. I get it, okay. I can roll with that. But if he is out there, what's wrong with him? Where the hell is he while all these decent people are getting torned to shreds? How does he live with himself? You know, why doesn't he help?
SAM looks over at BOBBY, and they share a look. SAM shifts in his seat, not sure what to say. DEAN looks over at BOBBY as well, like he has all the answers to this. BOBBY shrugs.
BOBBY
I ain't touching this one with a 10 foot pole.
DEAN
Yeah.
DEAN turns back to the shells. BOBBY indicated the book in front of him with his pen.
BOBBY
Found it.
SAM and DEAN looks back over at him again.
SAM
What?
BOBBY flips a page in the book while the camera "looks" at it. While talking he indicates SAM's drawing and points to the same one in the book.
BOBBY
The symbol you saw, the brand on the ghosts.
SAM
Yeah?
BOBBY
Mark of The Witness.
SAM
Witness? Witness to what?
BOBBY
The unnatural. None of them died what you'd call ordinary deaths. See, these ghosts; they were forced to rise. They woke up in agony. They're like rabid dogs. It ain't their fault. Someone rose 'em... on purpose.
SAM
Who?
BOBBY holds out his hands.
BOBBY
Do I look like I know?
SAM and DEAN share look at that and then looks back at BOBBY.
BOBBY
But whoever it was used a spell so powerful it left a mark, a brand on their souls.
DEAN looks at SAM for a moment, who doesn't notice and instead gets up and walks over to BOBBY. DEAN looks down on his shoulder, where the hand-print mark is.
BOBBY
Whoever did this had big plans. It's called "The Rising of the Witnesses".
He points at the book with his pen.
BOBBY
It, it figures into an ancient prophecy.
DEAN
Wait, wait. What-
He gets out of his chair and walks over to BOBBY.
DEAN
What book is that prophecy from?
BOBBY
Well, the widely distributed version's just for tourists, you know, but uh... Long story short, Revelations.
The boys both reacts to this with surprise.
BOBBY
This is a sign, boys.
SAM and DEAN
A sign of what?
BOBBY
The apocalypse.
SAM looks disbelieving at first, then taking in the meaning of what BOBBY just said. DEAN has a very similar reaction.
DEAN
Apocalypse?
BOBBY
Yupp.
DEAN
As in apocalypse, apocalypse? The four horsement, pestilence, $5-A-Gallon-Gas apocalypse?
BOBBY
That's the one. "The Rise of the Witnesses" is a... a mile marker.
SAM
Okay, so, what do we do now?
DEAN
Roadtrip.
He turns and walks back to the other table.
DEAN
Gran Canyon, Star Trek Experience, Bunny Ranch.
He sits down with his back to the others.
BOBBY
First things first.
DEAN turns around in his seat.
BOBBY
How about we survive our friends out there?
DEAN
Great. Any ideas besides staying in this room 'til judgement day?
BOBBY indicates the book.
BOBBY
It's a spell... to send the witnesses back to rest. Should work.
SAM
Should. Heh. Great.
BOBBY
If I translate it correctly. I think I got everything we need here at the house.
DEAN
Any chance you've got everything we need here in this room?
BOBBY
So, you thought our luck was gonna start now all of a sudden?
BOBBY gets out of his chair and stalks through the room, over to the weapons.
BOBBY
Spell's gotta be cast over an open fire.
SAM
Fireplace in the library.
BOBBY
Bingo.
DEAN
This is not as appealing as a ghost-proof panic room, you know?
SAM raises his eyebrows at DEAN, agreeing.
CUT TO: LATER
DEAN hands SAM and BOBBY each a weapon and BOBBY hands DEAN a book. SAM and BOBBY start moving to the door, DEAN close behind.
BOBBY
Cover each other. And aim careful. Don't run out of ammo until I'm done, or they'll shred you. Ready?
BOBBY opens the door and SAM stands ready with his weapon, aimed at whatever could attack them by the door. The basement is however empty and SAM walks out, followed by DEAN who's also aiming his weapon, ready for an attack. SAM looks up at the top of the stairs but there's nothing there, they continue to move towards the bottom of the stairs. When DEAN comes around and stands in front of the stairs we see that a ghost is sitting at the top of the stairs. The ghost looks up at them and we see it's RONALD RESNICK from "NIGHTSHIFTER". DEAN aims his weapon but when he sees it's RONALD he lowers his weapon a bit, shocked. RONALD smiles at them.
RONALD
Hey, Dean. You remember me?
FLASHBACK to "NIGHTSHIFTER" when RONALD has just entered the bank.
RONALD
Everybody on the floor now!
We flash to when RONALD is shot and falls to the floor, dead.
We flash to earlier in the same episode when RONALD describes the shapeshifter to the boys, not knowing it's a shapeshifter and thinking it's a mandroid.
RONALD
He's got the laser eyes.
INT. BASEMENT
DEAN smiles as he looks up at RONALD.
DEAN
Ronald, huh? With the laser eyes? I wish I could say it's good to see you.
RONALD stands up.
RONALD
I am dead because of you.
DEAN's smile disappears. RONALD is very angry.
RONALD
You were supposed to help me!
BOBBY shoots RONALD and he disappears. DEAN ducks when the shot goes off and then he looks over at BOBBY next to him. BOBBY looks back at him.
BOBBY
If you're gonna shoot, shoot. Don't talk.
BOBBY starts for the stairs.
INT. LIVINGROOM
DEAN and BOBBY hurry over to BOBBY's desk, putting down the book and BOBBY puts down his weapon. Meanwhile SAM pours out salt around them and DEAN starts a fire in the fireplace.
BOBBY
Upstairs, linen closet. Red hex box. It'll be heavy.
SAM turns around to him, done with the salt line.
SAM
Got it.
He goes for the stairs and BOBBY moves around the desk. When the camera shows SAM walk up the stairs, we see that the twins are back, standing just outside the saltline, watching.
GHOST GIRL #2
Bobby.
BOBBY looks up at that, as does DEAN by the fireplace. After a second DEAN gets up and shoots the girls. They disappear but we hear the laughter we heard earlier.
BOBBY
Kitchen. Cutlery drawer. It's got a false bottom.
He flips through the pages of the book and DEAN quickly heads into the kitchen.
BOBBY
Hemlock, opium, wormwood.
DEAN stops by the door to the kitchen and looks back at him.
DEAN
Opium?
BOBBY
Go!
DEAN holds up a hand and then heads into the kitchen. BOBBY begins to draw up the symbol needed for the spell.
GHOST GIRL #2
Bobby.
BOBBY stops and looks up, and we see that the girls are now standing by the window just outside the salt line.
GHOST GIRL #2
You walked right by us while that monster ate us all up.
GHOST GIRL #1
You could have saved us.
BOBBY gets tears in his eyes, and then pulls up his weapon, aiming it at the girls. They stand there for a moment, looking at each other.
INT. UPSTAIRS
We hear the gunshot from BOBBY downstairs as SAM comes around the corner and shows up in the hallway we saw DEAN in earlier. He aims his weapon, ready to fire, but there's nobody there. He moves down the hall, opening the first door but closes it quickly as it's not the linen closet. He moves to the next door, and bingo! He quickly opens it all the way and begin searching through it for the box. He finds it on the second shelf and pulls it out to the edge ready to bring it with him downstairs.
MEG
You know what really pisses me off, Sam?
SAM quickly turns around to where he came from and there stands MEG. She flickers in and out a few times while he has his riffle pointed at her. He shoots but she disappears a fraction of a second before the shot hits her and she shows up behind him.
MEG
You saw-
SAM whirls around, weapon aimed at her.
MEG
-how I suffered for months. I thought, you must have learned something. I thought I died for something.
SAM lowers his weapon, looking at her regretfully.
SAM
Meg.
MEG
But what you're doing with that demon, Ruby...
They watch each other for a moment.
MEG
How many innocent bodies has Ruby burned through for kicks? How many girls just like me? And you don't send her back to hell? You're a monster!
SAM looks down, sad. But then he breathes in, hardens and shoots MEG, who just watches him, tears in her eyes.
INT. KITCHEN
DEAN pulls out the drawer BOBBY directed him at earlier. He takes out the cuttlery and puts it on the counter. Suddenly the doors between the livingroom and the kitchen slides closed. Both BOBBY and DEAN looks over at that.
INT. LIVINGROOM
BOBBY
Dean?
DEAN (V.O)
I'm alright, Bobby!
INT. KITCHEN
DEAN
Keep working!
INT. LIVINGROOM
BOBBY bends back down by the desk, continuing what he was doing before the doors slammed shut.
INT. KITCHEN
DEAN is going through the drawer, one hand on the counter for support. Suddenly a hand grabs his wrist and DEAN looks up. Before him stands HENRIKSEN.
DEAN
Victor.
HENRIKSEN
Dean.
DEAN
I know.
HENRIKSEN
No, you don't.
DEAN
It's my fault you're dead. I left you behind. And the minute I heard about that explosion I thought, "I should have known". I should have protected you.
He moves his hand behind him, reaching for his sawed off. HENRIKSEN notices this though and the weapon is thrown across the room.
HENRIKSEN
Nuh-uh. Not so fast. You think you left and Lilith came and we all died in a beautiful blast of.. white light? If only.
DEAN looks at him, surprised by that.
HENRIKSEN
45 minutes.
DEAN
What?
HENRIKSEN
Over 45 minutes. Lilith said she wanted to have some fun. The secretary was first, remember her? Nancy, the virgin. Lilith filleted Nancy's skin off piece by piece right in front of us. Made us watch. Nancy never stopped screaming.
DEAN
No.
HENRIKSEN
I was the last.
They look at each other for a moment, and DEAN looks so sorry.
DEAN
Victor, I-
HENRIKSEN suddenly reaches into DEAN's chest, grabbing hold of his heart. We can hear his heart beat as DEAN struggles against the pain and the strain on his heart. He looks down at where HENRIKSEN's hand has entered his chest, and then up at HENRIKSEN.
HENRIKSEN
Tell me how it's fair. You get saved from hell - I die. Why do you deserve another chance, Dean?
We can hear DEAN's heart beating faster and faster, and HENRIKSEN breathes in, taking pleasure in this. Suddenly the nose of a riffle shows up by HENRIKSEN's head, and the trigger is pulled. The camera moves and shows it's SAM holding the gun. DEAN gasps for air and falls to the floor. SAM goes to his side.
SAM
You alright?
DEAN touches his chest above his heart where HENRIKSEN was reaching through seconds earlier.
DEAN
No.
SAM
Let's go.
He takes DEAN by his hand and helps him up.
INT. LIVINGROOM
SAM slides the doors open and with the box in his hands, he goes over to BOBBY, closely followed by DEAN. DEAN puts down a bowl with the supplies from the kitchen and BOBBY takes them out one by one for his spell. DEAN begins to load his weapon and suddenly RONALD shows up sitting just on the outside of the saltline, looking up at him. DEAN sees him and starts talking with him, a sad look on his face.
DEAN
Ronald. Hey, come on man. I thought we were pals.
RONALD
That's when I was breathing.
DEAN continues to load his weapon, and RONALD smiles up at him.
RONALD
Now I'm gonna eat you alive.
DEAN laughs at that.
DEAN
Well.. come on, I'm not a cheeseburger.
He shuts the riffel and puts it up to shoot RONALD, but he's gone. DEAN looks around and then SAM looks over at him and they share a look. BOBBY picks up a bowl with supplies in it and begins to chant in latin (I think, this doesn't sound like your run in the mill latin so we're a bit unsure on this part). Suddenly the windows open and wind invades the house. BOBBY tries to hold down the pieces of paper and the book with the spell, while the salt begins to scatter in the wind. When the line is broken, the wind dies. BOBBY continues to chant. Suddenly MEG shows up in front of SAM, and SAM shoots her. Then HENRIKSEN shows up and SAM shoots him too. The camera moves around SAM and we see MEG to his right. DEAN sees this.
DEAN
Down!
SAM covers his face and DEAN shoots MEG. SAM reloads his weapon as DEAN looks around. BOBBY continues the chanting in the background. Suddenly RONALD shows up, walking towards DEAN from the kitchen. DEAN hurries to reload his weapon, and then whips it up and shoots RONALD. The camera shows the boys firing over and over at the ghosts, while BOBBY continues working in the background. After a lot of shooting, DEAN reloads again but before he can whip it up, HENRIKSEN whips it out of his hands while walking towards DEAN. DEAN backs to the desk and grabs BOBBY's weapon and pulls the trigger on HENRIKSEN but the weapon is empty. HENRIKSEN continues walking towards him, DEAN turns and goes for the fireplace tools, and swings one through HENRIKSEN, making him disappear. SAM shoots RONALD and as he begins to reload again, MEG shows up and moves a desk towards SAM, pinning him up against the bookshelf.
DEAN
Sam!
SAM
Cover Bobby!
MEG doesn't move, just looks over at DEAN. Suddenly the two little girls show up and is sitting on the desk that SAM is stuck behind, so that he can't get out. BOBBY holds up the bowl, as he continues to chant. Suddenly we hear the sound of him being hit behind and BOBBY grunts in pain. DEAN turns around at that and we see MEG standing behind BOBBY, her hand through his back, like HENRIKSEN did to DEAN in the kitchen. We hear his heart beating. DEAN doesn't move, he just watches.
BOBBY
Dean!
He drops the bowl and DEAN throws himself on the floor to capture it.
BOBBY
Fireplace!
DEAN gets over to the fireplace and dumps the content of the bowl in it, making the fire turn blue and green, and flare up. Suddenly a bright green light erups from the fire, filling the entire room. It disentegrates all of the ghosts. BOBBY falls to the floor, gasping for air. DEAN looks around for a moment and then over at BOBBY.
DEAN
Bobby?
He moves over to him. SAM pushes the desk away from him and goes over at helps DEAN get BOBBY up. BOBBY nods to them that he's ok, while they steadies him.
CUT TO: LATER
SAM is asleep on the couch and DEAN's asleep on the floor. We hear a flapping noise and DEAN slowly wakes up. He turns and looks out into the kitchen, where CASTIEL is leaning on the counter. DEAN looks at him for a few moments and then looks over at SAM, who's still asleep. DEAN looks back at CASTIEL and then gets up and walks out into the kitchen.
INT. KITCHEN
CASTIEL
Excellent job with the witnesses.
DEAN
You were hip to all this?
CASTIEL
I was, uh, made aware.
DEAN
Well, thanks a lot for the angelic assistance. You know, I almost got my heart ripped out of my chest.
CASTIEL
But you didn't.
DEAN
I thought angels were supposed to be guardians. Fluffy wings, halos.. You know, Michael Landon. Not dicks.
CASTIEL
Read the bible. Angels are warriors of God. I'm a soldier.
DEAN
Yeah? Then, why didn't you fight?
CASTIEL
I'm not here to perch on your shoulder. We had larger concerns.
DEAN
Concerns? There were people getting torn to shreds down here! And by the way, while all this is going on, where the hell is your boss, huh? If there is a God?
CASTIEL
There's a God.
DEAN
I'm not convinced. 'Cause if there's a God, what the hell is he waiting for, huh? Genocide? Monsters roaming the earth? The freaking apocalypse? At what point does he lift a damn finger and help the poor bastards that are stuck down here?
CASTIEL
The lord works-
DEAN
If you say "in mysterious ways", so help me, I will kick your ass.
CASTIEL throws up his hands in surrender for a moment and they're silent for a little while.
DEAN
So, Bobby was right... about the witnesses.
He slowly walks over next to CASTIEL.
DEAN
This is some kind of a... sign of the apocalypse?
CASTIEL
That's why we're here. Big things afoot.
DEAN
Do I wanna know what kind of things?
CASTIEL
I sincerely doubt it, but you need to know. The "Rising of The Witnesses" is one of the 66 seals.
DEAN
Okay. I'm guessing that's not a show at seaworld.
CASTIEL
Those seals are being broken by Lilith.
Understanding seeps into DEAN's features.
DEAN
She did the spell. She rose the witnesses.
CASTIEL
Mm-hmm. And not just here. 20 other hunters are dead.
DEAN
Of course. She picked victims that the hunters couldn't save so that they would barrel right after us.
CASTIEL
Lilith has a certain sense of humor.
DEAN
Well, we put those spirits back to rest.
CASTIEL
Doesn't matter, the seal was broken.
DEAN
Why break the seal anyway?
CASTIEL
You think of the seals as locks on a door.
DEAN
Okay. Last one opens and...?
CASTIEL
Lucifer walks free.
DEAN
Lucifer?
CASTIEL nods.
DEAN
But I thought Lucifer was just a story they told at demon Sunday School. There's no such thing.
CASTIEL
Three days ago, you thought there was no such thing as me. Why do you think we're here walking among you now, for the first time in 2,000 years?
DEAN
To stop Lucifer.
CASTIEL nods.
CASTIEL
It's why we've arrived.
DEAN nods. With a mocking tone, he continues.
DEAN
Well... Bang-up job so far. Stellar work with the witnesses. That's nice.
DEAN leans against the counter.
CASTIEL
We tried. There are other battles. Other seals. Some we'll win, some we'll loose. This one we lost.
CASTIEL slowly walks up and stands mere inches from DEAN.
CASTIEL
Our numbers are not unlimited. Six of my brothers died in the field this week. You think the armies of heaven should just follow you around? There's a bigger picture here.
He leans closer at DEAN, who moves his head a bit to the side, not wanting to look at CASTIEL.
CASTIEL
You should show me some respect. I dragged you out of hell. I can throw you back in.
DEAN looks down for a moment and when he looks up, CASTIEL is gone.
INT. LIVINGROOM - MORNING
DEAN wakes up with almost a gasp and quickly looks over to the kitchen, where SAM is walking into the livingroom from. As SAM sits down on the couch, DEAN sits up. DEAN rubs his hand over his face while SAM puts on his shirt.
SAM
You alright?
DEAN doesn't answer, he just looks down, thoughtful.
SAM
What's wrong, Dean?
DEAN looks up at him.
DEAN
So...
He clears his throat.
DEAN
You got no problem believing in... God and angels?
SAM
No, not really.
DEAN
So, I guess that means that you believe in the devil.
SAM stops what he's doing, looking at DEAN.
SAM
Why are you asking me all this?
DEAN looks down, shaking his head. As the camera zooms in on him, he looks up at SAM.
