EXT. SAN FRANCISCO - NIGHT
SUBTITLE
San Fransisco, California
We approach the lighted city from across the bay.
INT. CLASSY BAR - NIGHT
A group of well dressed young women are laughing and drinking. A man further away finishes his drink in a gulp and starts towards them.
NATE
Hey, Maddy. Listen, I, uh, hate to pull you away but I'm gonna need you to come back to the office with me.
MADISON
Really? (She can't believe this lame pickup line)
NATE
Yeah, turns out I gotta file those docs by midnight and...
MADISON
Midnight?
Her friends don't look too impressed by this lame pretense.
NATE
Yeah, I'm gonna need you to, uhm...
MADISON gives him no help and just dares him to keep up the lie.
NATE
(chuckles)
This isn't working at all, is it?
MADISON
(smiling broadly now)
No, it's not, Nate.
NATE
Listen, I've had a couple. I shouldn't really drive. Could you just give me a lift?
MADISON
I already called you a cab. I'll see you in the morning.
NATE realizes just how much he struck out and leaves the group. The girls all smile and giggle.
GIRL #1
Hmm, that happen a lot?
MADISON
Only on the days that end with Y.
They laugh and look at NATE leaving the bar. A strangely out of place young creepy guy is sitting near the door looking at the group intensely. MADISON sees him and her smile vanishes and looks frightened.
GIRL #1
(noticing a change in MADISON)
Are you okay?
MADISON
(lets out a breath)
Yeah.
She looks back and the guy is gone.
MADISON
I've got to go.
EXT. PARKING LOT - NIGHT
MADISON walking briskly. A loud sound of garbage cans falling make her turn around. Only a dog is there. She regains her composure and makes it to her car and driving away. The creepy guy then appears from behind some cars.
INT. HIGH RISE OFFICE - MORNING
MADISON sets her purse down to grab the empty coffee pot. She walks through the office to the water cooler and begins filling it up. Time appears to slow as the sounds become deep and drawn out. She notices something and stops filling up the pot. There is blood on an open door. Walking closer she sees blood on the floor, then a bloody hand, and then NATE spread face up on his desk ripped apart. MADISON drops the coffee pot and screams.
END TEASER
INT. MORGUE
A drawer is pulled out revealing NATE who has been autopsied and sewn back together.
CORONER
Here is he is, detective.
SAM
That's a pretty nasty bite.
CORONER
Mmhmm.
SAM
You know what bit him?
CORONER
I haven't quite determined that just yet.
SAM
Come on, doc, off the record.
CORONER
Okay, way, way off the record.
SAM
Sure.
CORONER
If I didn't know better, I'd say the guy was attacked by a wolf. But unless the zoo is missing one of their lobos, I'm going with pit bull. I like my job.
SAM
Yeah, I hear you. One more thing. This guy...was his heart missing?
CORONER
Yeah, how did you know that? I haven't even finished my report.
SAM
Lucky guess.
INT. MOTEL ROOM - DAY
DEAN cleaning his guns.
DEAN
This lawyer guy the first heart-free corpse in town?
SAM
First man. Over the past year, several women have gone missing. Their bodies all washed up later in the bay too deteriorated to draw firm conclusions.
DEAN
But no hearts?
SAM
No hearts. They were all hookers working Hunter's Point. Cops are trying to keep things under wrap. They're looking for a serial killer.
DEAN
And the lunar cycle?
SAM
Mmmhmm. Yeah all the murders happened in the week leading up to the full moon.
DEAN
Which is this week, right?
SAM
Hence the lawyer.
DEAN
Awesome.
SAM
Dean, could you be a bigger geek about this?
DEAN
I'm sorry, man, but what about a human by day a freak animal killing machine by moonlight don't you understand? I mean, werewolves are badass. We haven't seen one since we were kids.
SAM
Okay, Sparky, and you know what? After we kill it, we can go to Disneyland.
DEAN
Know what the best part is? We already know how to bring these suckers down. (Dean holds up a silver bullet.) One of these bad boys right to the heart. What's our next move?
SAM
Talk to the girl who found the body.
INT. MADISON'S APARTMENT - DAY
MADISON
I don't understand. I already gave my statement.
SAM
Right. Yeah, well, we just need to verify a few things.
MADISON
This is my neighbor, Glen. Glen, this is Detective...
DEAN
Landis. And Detective Dante.
GLEN
Well, guess I'll leave you to it.
MADISON
Okay. Thanks for the casserole.
DEAN
Oh, how thoughtful.
GLEN
Just call if you need anything.
MADISON
He's sweet. He came over to check on me. Have a seat.
SAM
You must be pretty shaken up. You were Nate Mulligan's assistant, right?
MADISON
For two years, yeah.
DEAN
So you knew all about him?
MADISON
Probably knew more about him than he did. Nate was... He was nice.
SAM
But?
MADISON
Nothing really, I... He had a few scotches and started hitting on anyone in a five-mile radius. You know the type.
SAM chuckles, blushes, and nods knowingly. SAM glances at an oblivious DEAN and is quickly embarrassed.
SAM
Yeah. I do, actually.
DEAN realizes what has been said at his expense, makes a face, and gets into professional mode.
DEAN
Did he have any enemies?
MADISON
What do you mean? It sure looked like an animal attack.
DEAN
No. Yeah, we're just covering all the bases. Anyone that might've had a beef with him? Former client, an ex?
SAM
What?
MADISON
This is embarrassing, but my ex-boyfriend, Kurt.
DEAN
Kurt have a last name?
MADISON
Mueller. After we broke up, he went kind of nuts. He's...Well he's kind of been stalking me. He got it in his head that something was going on between Nate and I. He showed up at my office.
SAM
What happened?
MADISON
Kurt got into it with Nate. Threw a punch before security grabbed him. I was lucky to keep my job.
DEAN
When was the last time you saw Kurt?
MADISON
A few nights ago. Actually, the night Nate died. We were all grabbing drinks a the bar and Kurt showed up.
DEAN
And?
MADISON
Nothing. It was like he was watching me. Then he was gone. To tell you the truth he scares me.
EXT. MADISON'S APARTMENT BUILDING - DAY
DEAN
So what do you think?
SAM
Stalker ex-boyfriend? He hates the boss. And he was there that night.
DEAN
You think he's our dog-faced boy?
SAM
Well, it's a theory.
DEAN
We've had worse.
SAM
Yeah.
DEAN
What do you say we pay Kurt a visit.
SAM and DEAN get into IMPALA.
INT MADISON'S KITCHEN - DUSK
MADISON hears dog barking and looks out window and sees KURT. Looks inside and then back out and he's gone.
INT. KURT'S APARTMENT - NIGHT
DEAN and SAM entering through the front door. DEAN naturally heads to the refrigerator.
SAM
Anything?
DEAN
Nothing but leftovers and a six pack.
SAM
Check the freezer. Maybe there are some human hearts behind the Haagen-Dazs or something.
DEAN considers and is distracted by a scratching noise outside. He walks out the sliding door to the balcony. Over the ledge are two sets of deep scratches in concrete going all the way down to the street.
EXT. ALLEY - NIGHT
Through the eyes of something low to the ground and growling behind the dumpster. We see a policeman investigating a noise. He bends over and we see through the eyes of his growling attacker.
INT. KURT'S APARTMENT
Gunshot is heard in the distance. SAM and DEAN run out of the apartment. They round the corner to find the mangled body of the policeman behind the dumpster.
SAM
I'll call 911.
DEAN
I'd say Kurt's looking more and more like our Cujo.
SAM
Dean, if he's out here, we better check on Madison.
EXT. MADISON'S APARTMENT - DAY
SAM knocking on MADISON's door. Apartment #3. GLEN peeks out his door at the sound.
GLEN
What's going on?
DEAN
Police business, Glen.
MADISON
(opening the door)
What is it?
SAM
Well, maybe we should talk privately.
INT. MADISON'S APARTMENT - DAY
SAM
Has Kurt been here?
MADISON
Not exactly.
DEAN
What exactly does "not exactly" mean?
MADISON
Well, he was outside last night. Just looking. Just looking at me. Has he done something.
SAM
We're not really sure.
DEAN
It's probably nothing. But we just don't wanna take any chances. In fact, one of us should probably stay here with you, just in case he stops by. Where does he work?
MADISON
He owns a body shop.
DEAN
You mind grabbing that address for us? Thanks.
MADISON walks out of the kitchen.
SAM
All right. You go, I'll stay.
DEAN
Forget that. You go after the creepy ex. I'm gonna hang here with the hot chick.
SAM
Why do you always hang with the girls?
DEAN
Because I'm older.
SAM
No. Screw that. We settle this the old-fashioned way.
SAM holds up his fists. DEAN looking serious, sets down his coffee and draws his hands up. He places his right fist lightly into the palm of his other hand still staring intently, he draws his fist up away from his palm as they begin a serious match of Paper Rock Scissors. DEAN choose scissors. We see SAM with a fist and triumphant expression of mock pity that DEAN lost.
SAM
Dean. Always with the scissors.
DEAN
Shut up. Shut up. Two out of three.
SAM sighs and they go again. Same result.
DEAN
(in defeat)
Gaaw!
SAM
Bundle up out there alright?
INT. MADISON'S APARTMENT - DAY
MADISON is walking around looking at her mail. SAM is sitting at the table uncomfortably and quiet.
MADISON
Um, do you wanna sit on the couch?
SAM
No. No, no, I'm okay.
MADISON
It's more comfortable.
SAM
Aw, I'm fine.
MADISON walks out of the room and comes back with her laundry which she purposely dumps on the table in front of SAM. It's all her underwear. Sam looks embarrassed.
SAM
You know what? I think will sit on that couch.
MADISON smiles pleased. SAM's cell phone rings. It's DEAN.
DEAN
Let me guess. You're sitting on her couch like a stiff, trying to think of something to say.
SAM
You find Kurt?
DEAN
He hasn't been at work all week. But because I'm good...and I mean really, really good...I got a line on where he might be. What's she wearing?
SAM
Bye, Dean.
DEAN
(laughing)
Aww, Sammy.
INT. MADISON'S APARTMENT - DAY
MADISON comes and sits by SAM on the couch and flips on the tv. It's a soap opera ("All My Children") and SAM rolls his eyes.
MADISON
I saw that.
SAM
What? Saw what?
MADISON
Okay, this is the deal: my house, my tv. I never get to watch my show. So suck it up.
EXT. MADISON'S APARTMENT BUILDING - LATE DAY
Address reads 1144 Minna Street.
INT. MADISON'S APARTMENT - LATE DAY
Credits roll on tv screen. SAM is leaned forward as if he'd been intently watching. MADISON flips the show off which breaks SAM out of his thoughts.
SAM
Wait. So Kendall married Ethan's father just to get back at him?
MADISON
Yup. And now she's set to inherit all the casinos that were supposed to go to Ethan.
SAM
(in awe)
What a bitch!
MADISON cracks up in laughter and SAM follows suit.
MADISON
Admit it. You're hooked.
SAM
No, no, no. I wouldn't say I'm hooked.
SAM
Can I ask you a question? It's a little personal.
MADISON
You've seen my entire underwear collection. Go ahead.
SAM
Okay. Uh...well, you're...You're clearly smart. I mean, your house is full of great books, you know...and you're independent.
MADISON
Uh huh.
SAM
What were you doing with Kurt?
MADISON
I don't know. I mean, its not like he introduced himself, like: "Hi, I'm possessive and controlling and I like to punch people. Wanna be my girlfriend?
SAM
Yeah, well, I guess we all make mistakes.
MADISON
Yeah, well, mine's wanted by the police. You wanna know why I stayed with him? Really?
SAM nods.
MADISON
I was too insecure to leave.
SAM
I find that hard to believe. I mean, you don't really seem like the type.
MADISON
Yeah, well, some stuff happened. My life changed. I changed for the better, I think.
SAM
What happened?
MADISON
Well, for one thing, I got mugged.
SAM
And that's supposed to be a good thing?
MADISON
I know. It sounds strange. And don't get me wrong, it rattled me. But then it hit me, I could keep feeling sorry for myself, or I could take control of my life. I chose the latter. First thing I did was tell Kurt he had to go.
SAM
Smart move.
MADISON
Apparently. Everything else just opened up, blossomed. It's all been wonderful, really.
SAM makes a face.
MADISON
What? Doesn't everybody think being a victim of random violence is the best thing that ever happened to them?
SAM
Ha, ha. Yeah, not so much. You're unusual.
MADISON
Unusual, like...unusual?
MADISON points to her head as if SAM was implying she had a mental problem.
SAM
No. No. No, no, no. Unusual like, impressive.
MADISON
You think so?
Sam's cell phone rings.
SAM
(to MADISON)
Sorry.
(answers the phone)
Hey.
DEAN
(on the phone from inside a strip club)
I found him.
DEAN's eyes are fixed on something above him.
SAM
Good. Don't take your eyes off of him.
DEAN's eyes slowly move down as a pair of legs in high heeled platform shoes come into the screen. DEAN quickly glances to his left and we see KURT having a drink in the strip club. DEAN's eyes resume position on the unseen stripper.
DEAN
Yeah. My eyes are glued. Look, Sammy, I gotta let you go. I, uh, don't want to miss anything.
DEAN smiles and pulls out a folded dollar bill. The stripper takes it and DEAN grins as she continues to dance in front of him.
INT MADISON'S APARTMENT - NIGHT
SAM looking at the moon.
MADISON
So I'm going to turn in.
SAM
Yeah, well I'll be here.
MADISON
Okay.
SAM
You know what? If you hear anything...I mean, if you wake up, just...Just call out.
MADISON
Okay.
SAM
Okay.
INT. MADISON'S APARTMENT - NIGHT
SAM is watching soap reruns.
EXT. ALLEY OUTSIDE OF STRIP CLUB - NIGHT
DEAN is watching KURT's apartment. He hear's a noise.
INT. KURT'S APARTMENT - NIGHT
DEAN burst in and sees a werewolf. Which is MADISON who knocks DEAN out and escapes out window.
INT. MADISON'S APARTMENT - MORNING
SAM answers cell phone.
SAM
You okay?
DEAN
(still at KURT's apartment)
Now that I'm conscious. The werewolf knocked me out. Sam, it's Madison.
SAM
What?
DEAN
Yeah, awesome job of keeping an eye on her.
SAM peeks into MADISON's room and sees her sleeping soundly.
SAM
I've been here the whole time. She's in bed, asleep.
DEAN
Well, she wasn't an hour ago. Check her right arm below her elbow. I nicked her with a silver knife.
MADISON wakes up and rolls over to see Sam in her room
MADISON
Morning.
SAM sees the cut on her right arm.
MADISON
Um, where are my pajamas?
SAM shakes with the realization that she is indeed the werewolf. He walks out of the room.
MADISON
(calling after him)
Sam? What's going on?
(getting out of bed wearing only her sheet)
Where are you going?
SAM double lockings the front door and turns around.
SAM
I'm not going anywhere. And neither are you.
INT. MADISON'S APARTMENT - DAY
MADISON is tied to a chair and SAM is holding a gun on her.
MADISON
You are psychotic. The whole, 'I'm a cop' trip. God, I am so stupid.
SAM
I guess neither of us are who we said we were, huh?
MADISON
Sam, you're sick, okay? You're imagining things. Monsters don't exist, not really.
SAM
You know what? Save the act.
MADISON
It's not an act. I am not a werewolf. There is no such thing. It's made up, all right? They're not real. You know they're not real.
SAM
No? Then where did that come from?
MADISON
I don't know. Sam, God, you need help. Please, don't do something that you're gonna regret. I'm not what you think I am. I'm not.
SAM hears knocking on the door and goes to let DEAN in.
DEAN
How you doing? My head feels great, thanks.
SAM
(to DEAN)
We gotta talk.
They head into the kitchen.
SAM
She says she has no idea what I'm talking about.
DEAN
She's lying.
SAM
Maybe she really doesn't know she's changing. Maybe when the creature takes over, she blacks out.
DEAN
Like a really hot Incredible Hulk? Dude, she ganked her boss and her ex-boyfriend. That doesn't sound rash and unconscious.
SAM
But what if it was, Dean? What if some animal part of her brain saw both those guys as threats? Hell, the cop too.
DEAN
What are you, the dog whisperer, now?
SAM
Look, man, I just...I don't know. There was something in her eyes.
DEAN
Yeah, she's killing people.
SAM
But if she has no control...
DEAN
(interrupting)
Exactly, she can't control it. Even if she's telling the truth, it's not going to change anything.
SAM
I'm not putting a bullet through some girl's chest who has no idea what's happening.
DEAN
She's a monster. You're feeling sorry for her?
SAM
Maybe I understand her.
DEAN is at a loss for words.
SAM
Look. There might be another way we can get the job done without having to waste her.
DEAN
Are you thinking what I think you're thinking?
SAM
Dad's theory, 'Lycanthropy might have a cure if you kill the werewolf who bit you severing the bloodline.'
DEAN
'Might have a cure.' Meaning who the hell knows?
SAM
It's worth a shot.
DEAN
We don't even know where to start looking. Alright, the puppy that bit her could be anyone, anywhere. Could have been years ago.
SAM
No, I don't think so.
SAM goes into the living room where MADISON is still tied up.
SAM
Madison, when were you mugged? Please it's important, all right? Just answer the question.
MADISON
SAM
Did you see the guy?
MADISON
No. Grabbed me from behind.
SAM
Did he bite you?
MADISON
(confused)
How did you know that?
SAM
Where?
MADISON
On the back of my neck.
SAM puts his gun down and gently pulls back MADISON's hair to reveal a scar from a nasty animal bite.
DEAN
Well that's just a love bite. Believe me, that could have been a lot worse. Where were you at the time?
MADISON
Walking home from a friend's loft.
SAM
Let me guess, not too far from Hunter's Point?
SAM
Same place where those other murders happened. I'm telling you, it's a werewolf's hunting grounds.
DEAN
Maybe, but that doesn't mean it'll be out tonight.
SAM
It’s the right time in the lunar cycle. I know it's a long shot.
DEAN
You're forgetting something. Madison's probably gonna turn soon. Alright? We can't just let her take off to an all-you-can-eat buffet.
SAM
I'll stay with her.
DEAN
And if she busts loose? Sam?
SAM
I'll do it.
DEAN
Sam.
SAM
I'll shoot her, all right? But, Dean, I need you to go out there. At least go look for the thing. Dean, please. We can save this girl.
DEAN
Fine.
INT. MADISON'S LIVING ROOM - DAY
MADISON
Please. Just let me go.
SAM very distressed pulls up a chair in front of her and sits down.
SAM
Look. I know you're scared. I also know that there's no way in hell you're gonna believe me. But I'm doing this because I'm trying to help you. I'm not gonna lie. The odds aren't exactly in our favor. But if this goes the way I pray it does...I'll untie you and I'll walk out that door and I'll never come back. You'll live the rest of your life and I'll just be a bad memory.
EXT. THE STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO - NIGHT
Trashy dressed woman walking the streets. She shivers when hearing howling in the distance.
INT. MADISON'S APARTMENT - NIGHT
MADISON's nails grow out. She raises her head in werewolf form and breaks the ropes that bound her to the chair. She swings at SAM.
EXT. SAN FRANCISCO STREETS
The trashy woman is frightened and running. We get glimpses of her through the eyes of some creature. It begins to chase her.
INT. MADISON'S APARTMENT - NIGHT
SAM points a gun at MADISON. She growls and leaps at him. SAM dodges and she sails into a closet which SAM slams the door shut and barricades.
EXT. SAN FRANCISCO STREETS
The woman is jumped by the creature. We now see the fangs of a werewolf.
DEAN
Hey!
DEAN fires several shots in the werewolf who we can now tell is GLEN. The woman is terrified, wriggles out from under the dead body and runs off.
DEAN
Hey! Don't mention it!
GLEN is still alive and choking on his blood. He reverts back to human form.
GLEN
(confused)
What happened? Where am I?
DEAN is at a loss for words.
GLEN
Oh, God. Oh my God.
DEAN
All right, easy, Glen. Just take it easy.
GLEN dies.
INT. MADISON'S APARTMENT - MORNING
MADISON wakes up and realizes she is in her closet. SAM has opened up the door which she has scratched very badly.
SAM
It should be over now. You'll never see me again.
MADISON shocked, spins around to look at all the scratches on the closet wall. When she makes it back around to the door, SAM is gone.
EXT. IMPALA - DAY
SAM and DEAN are parked outside MADISON's apartment.
DEAN
It was sort of sad, actually. Glen had no clue what was going on. Hey. Why do you think he turned Madison, instead of just killing her?
SAM
I don't know. He kind of seemed to have a thing for her.
DEAN
Maybe his primal instinct did too. Maybe he was looking for a little hot breeding action.
SAM
Yeah. Something like that.
DEAN
So?
SAM
So, what?
DEAN
Speaking of Madison.
SAM
Oh, whatever.
DEAN
Don't whatever me. You like her. Maybe.
SAM
Dean, she thought I was a stark raving lunatic.
DEAN
You saved her life.
SAM
Yeah, but she doesn't know that.
MADISON appears at the passenger side window.
MADISON
You know, for a stakeout, your car's a bit conspicuous. What are you still doing here?
DEAN
Honestly? Uh. We're pretty sure you're not gonna turn tonight. But, we gotta be 100 percent. So, you know. We're lurking.
SAM
Look, I know this sounds crazy.
MADISON
Sure does. Well if we're gonna wait it out, we might as well do it together.
INT. MADISON'S APARTMENT - DAY
MADISON
You were telling the truth, weren't you? About everything. What you did, it was to help me.
SAM
Yeah.
MADISON
I did all those horrible things...when I turned.
SAM
You didn't know.
MADISON
So when will we know for sure? Moonrise?
SAM
No, I don't think so. You turned middle of the night last night. I think we gotta hang in until sun-up.
DEAN
Well, it looks like we got ourselves a few hours to kill. Poker, anyone?
EXT. SAN FRANCISCO - DAY TURNS INTO NIGHT
INT. MADISON'S APARTMENT - NIGHT
The moon is high in the sky. DEAN tries to quietly set his gun on the table next to him. The small noise draws both SAM and MADISON's attention. They both are silent.
DEAN
Oh, no, you guys talk.
INT. MADISON'S APARTMENT - NIGHT BECOMES DAYBREAK
SAM, DEAN and MADISON stand at the window watching the sun rise.
MADISON
Does? Does this mean it worked?
SAM
Yeah, I think so.
MADISON
Oh, God, thank you. Thank you so much.
DEAN clears his throat clearly wanting a little credit.
MADISON
(smiling)
You too, Dean. Thank you.
DEAN
Aww...don't mention it. Yeah. So I'm just gonna head back to the hotel and watch some pay-per-view or something.
DEAN walks towards the door and pumps his fist in the air as in victory. He gives one last grin before walks out closing the door.
MADISON
That was smooth.
SAM
He means well.
MADISON
You mean, he thinks you're gonna get laid.
SAM
Look.
MADISON
It's okay.
SAM
No. I know I scared the crap out of you, all right? I mean, I tied you to a chair.
MADISON
That's right up there with me...scratching up your face.
SAM
There's just no way we could go back, you know...to before it happened.
MADISON
You're right. There's just no way.
Several glances and MADISON gives in and they move into a passionate kiss and then into the bedroom.
INT. MADISON'S BEDROOM
SAM and MADISON are making love and eventually lying peaceful asleep in bed.
INT. MADISON'S BEDROOM - NIGHT
The moon is up. SAM is sleeping. He wakes up and realizes he's alone in bed. MADISON snarls from the window. SAM sees she's a werewolf and tries to grab her but she escapes outside.
INT. MOTEL HALLWAY - NIGHT
SAM runs down the hall and begins beating on DEAN's door. DEAN opens the door.
SAM
She turned.
DEAN
What?!
SAM
I couldn't grab her in time.
DEAN
We'll find her Sammy.
EXT. MOTEL - DAY
SAM and DEAN are walking down stairs.
SAM
I already called Bobby. He doesn't know anything. Except, he knew severing the bloodline wouldn't work. Most everyone says it's impossible to reverse it.
DEAN
How come she didn't turn when we were with her?
SAM
Dean
DEAN
You put her to bed, then she wolfed out? Maybe she's gotta be asleep to turn?
SAM
What the hell does it matter? We gotta find some way to help her. Some legend we missed or something.
DEAN
If there was, someone we know would've known.
SAM
Well then, we have took harder until we find something.
DEAN
Sammy, I don't think we got a choice here anymore.
SAM
What?
DEAN
I hate to say it, she's a sweet girl, but part of her is...
SAM
Evil?
DEAN
Yeah.
SAM
Yeah. That's what they say about me, Dean. So me you won't kill. But her, you're just gonna blow away?
SAM's phone rings and he picks it up.
EXT. PHONE BOOTH - DAY
MADISON is only wearing SAM's shirt from the day before.
MADISON
Sam?
SAM
Madison. Where are you?
MADISON
I don't...I don't...I don't know where I am.
SAM
Well, do you see any street signs?
MADISON
Um...Yeah, yeah. Middlepoint.
SAM
(getting into the IMPALA)
All right, all right. Hold on, Maddy. We're coming to get you. Just stay where you are.
INT. MADISON'S APARTMENT - DAY
MADISON
(almost as if in shock)
I don't remember anything. I probably killed someone last night. Didn't I?
DEAN
There's no way to know yet.
MADISON
Is there something else we can try to make it go away?
SAM
We'll find something. I mean, there's gotta be some answer, somewhere.
DEAN
That's not entirely true. Madison, you deserve to know. We've scoured every source. There's just no cure.
MADISON
Is? Is he right?
SAM can't look at her and gets up and walks away.
DEAN
We could lock you up at night. But if you bust out, and some night you will, someone else dies. I'm sorry. I am.
MADISON
So I guess that's all there is to it, then.
SAM
Stop it. Don't talk like that.
MADISON
Sam, I don't want to hurt anyone else. I don't want to hurt you.
MADISON picks up the gun and walks over to SAM.
SAM
Put that down.
MADISON
I can't do it myself. I need you to help me.
SAM
Madison. No.
MADISON
Sam. I am a monster.
SAM
You don't have to be. We can find a way, all right? I can. I'm gonna save you.
MADISON
You tried. I know you tried. This is all there is left.
SAM
Help me, Sam. I want you to do it. I want it to be you.
SAM
I can't.
MADISON
I don't wanna die. I don't. But I can't live like this. This is the way you can save me. Please. I'm asking you to save me.
SAM shakes his head ever so slight, no. DEAN gets up and takes the gun away from SAM. The opening chords of Silent Lucidity by Queensryche begin faintly. SAM walks over to the kitchen door unable to look at MADISON. DEAN eventually comes over to SAM.
DEAN
Sam. I'm sorry.
SAM
(holding back tears)
No. You're right. She's right.
DEAN
Sammy, I got this one. I'll do it.
SAM
She asked me to.
DEAN
You don't have to.
SAM
(unable to hold the tears back)
Yes, I do. Please.
SAM holds his hand out for the gun. DEAN reluctantly places the gun in SAM's hand and lets his fingers slowly slide off as if prolonging letting go.
SAM
Just wait here.
SAM walks out of the kitchen. He pauses and looks back at DEAN with tears in his eyes, before moving completely off screen and into the living room to meet MADISON.
DEAN stands in the kitchen unable to see the living room. His pained expression is slowly engulfed in shadows as a tear falls from his eye.
A gunshot is heard. DEAN flinches. Silence.
