FADE IN: INT. CHURCH - MORNING
SUBTITLE
Blue Earth, Minnesota
PASTOR JIM MURPHY is at the altar, looking through a book. Suddenly, the candles around him flicker, as if a wind is blowing. The church door opens, and MEG enters, slightly distraught.
JIM
Good morning. Can I help you?
MEG
I kind of... I need to talk.
She sits down in a pew. JIM walks over to her.
JIM
Well, that's what I'm here for.
MEG
I've done some things- not good things.
JIM
Well, there's always forgiveness for us if we seek it.
MEG
For everyone? Are you sure?
JIM
I like to say salvation was created for sinners. Tell me what's on your mind.
MEG sighs.
MEG
Well, I've lied... a lot. I've stolen. I've lusted. And the other day, I met this man- a nice guy, you know? And we had a really good chat- sort of like this.
(She pauses briefly)
Then I slit his throat and ripped his heart out through his chest.
JIM is puzzled. MEG blinks. When she opens her eyes, they are coal-black.
MEG (cont'd)
Does that make me a bad person?
JIM
(shocked)
I know what you are.
He starts to back away from her. She blinks again, and her eyes return to normal.
JIM (cont'd)
You can't be here. This is hallowed ground.
She stands up.
MEG
Please. Maybe that works in the minor leagues- but not with me.
JIM runs away from her, down a flight of stairs.
INT. CHURCH BASEMENT
JIM enters and closes the doors behind him. He blocks the doors with a piece of wood and moves over to a large array of weapons. He finds the knife he is looking for and picks it up just as MEG kicks the doors open. He hurls the knife at her, but she catches it. JIM is stunned.
MEG
You throw like a girl.
JIM begins backing away from her.
JIM
What do you want?
MEG
The Winchesters.
JIM
I haven't spoken to John Winchester in over a year. You're wasting your time. Even if I did know where they were, I'd never tell you.
MEG
I know.
She raises the knife and slits his throat. JIM falls into a chair. MEG walks away, grinning, as JIM is left to bleed to death.

FADE IN: INT. MOTEL ROOM
SUBTITLE
Manning, Colorado.
Maps, newspaper articles, books, and photographs cover the walls and tables. JOHN is seated at a desk, and DEAN and SAM are standing. The Colt revolver is on the desk, on top of several papers.
JOHN
So, this is it. This is everything I know. Look, our whole lives we've been searching for this demon, right? And not a trace, just nothing... until about a year ago. For the first time, I picked up a trail.
DEAN
That's when you took off.
JOHN
Yeah, that's right. The demon must have come out of hiding or hibernation.
DEAN
All right, so, what's this trail you found?
JOHN
It starts in Arizona, then New Jersey, California- houses are burning down to the ground. It's going after families... just like it went after us.
SAM
Families with infants?
JOHN
Yeah- the night of the kid's six-month birthday.
SAM
I was six months old that night?
JOHN
Exactly six months.
SAM
So, basically, this demon is goin' after these kids for some reason- the same way it came for me? So, Mom's death, Jessica- it's all 'cause of me?
DEAN
We don't know that, Sam.
SAM
Oh, really, 'cause I'd say we're pretty damn sure, Dean.
DEAN
For the last time, what happened to them is not your fault.
SAM
Yeah, you're right, it's not my fault, but it's my problem!
DEAN
No, it's not your problem, it's our problem!
JOHN
Okay. That's enough.
He stands up. They are all silent for a minute.
SAM
So, why is it doing it? What does it want?
JOHN
Look, I wish I had more answers. I do. I've always been one step behind it. Look, I've never gotten there in time to save...
He trails off.
DEAN
All right, so, how do we find it before it hits again?
JOHN
There's signs. Look, it took me a while to see the pattern, but in the days before these fires, signs crop up in an area- cattle deaths, temperature fluctuations, electrical storms. And then I went back and checked, and...
DEAN
These things happened in Lawrence.
JOHN nods.
JOHN
The week before your mother died.
(He turns to SAM)
And in Palo Alto... before Jessica. And these signs- they're starting again.
SAM
Where?
JOHN
Salvation, Iowa.
CUT TO:
Road. Shortly after entering Salvation, Iowa, JOHN pulls over to the side of the road. DEAN and SAM do the same. They all get out of their cars.
JOHN
Damn it.
DEAN
What is it?
JOHN
Son of a bitch!
DEAN
What is it?
JOHN
I just got a call from Caleb.
DEAN
Is he okay?
JOHN
He's fine. Jim Murphy is dead.
SAM
Pastor Jim?
(JOHN nods)
How?
JOHN
Throat was slashed- he bled out.
DEAN and SAM are stunned.
JOHN (cont'd)
Caleb said they found traces of sulfur at Jim's place.
DEAN
The demon.
(JOHN nods slightly)
The demon?
JOHN
I don't know. Could be he just got careless, he slipped up. Maybe the demon knows we're gettin' close.
DEAN
What do you want to do?
JOHN
Now we act like every second counts. There's two hospitals and a health center in this county. We split up, we cover more ground. I want records. I want a list of every infant that's gonna be six months old in the next week.
SAM
Dad, that could be dozens of kids. How the hell are we gonna know which one's the right one?
JOHN
We'll check 'em all, that's how. You got any better ideas?
SAM
(after a pause)
No, sir.
They move to get back into the car. JOHN turns back to his truck but stops.
DEAN
Dad?
After a moment, JOHN turns to face them.
JOHN
Yeah... it's Jim. You know, I can't...
(He trails off, sad)
This ends. Now. I'm ending it. I don't care what it takes.
He gets into his truck, and DEAN and SAM get into the car.
EXT. SALVATION WOMEN AND CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL
JOHN pulls up outside the building in his truck. He opens his glove compartment and sorts through his fake IDs, before finding a hospital staff ID card. He takes it out and hooks it onto his shirt.
INT. SALVATION IOWA MEDICAL CENTER
A receptionist brings several files over to SAM, who is working at a table.
RECEPTIONIST
Here you go, Officer.
SAM
Thank you.
He smiles and continues copying down information from birth certificates.
INT. SALVATION HOSPITAL
An attractive young woman is behind the front desk, holding a clipboard. DEAN sees her and raises his eyebrows, impressed. He walks over to her.
WOMAN
Hi. Is there anything I can do for you?
DEAN
Oh, God, yes.
(She laughs, embarrassed)
Only I, uh...
(He clears his throat and shows her his police badge)
I'm working right now, so...
(He looks disappointed)
EXT. SALVATION IOWA MEDICAL CENTER
SAM is walking out of the building. Suddenly, he sees several images flash in his mind very quickly. He stops and grimaces in pain. More images flash in his mind. He sees a mother placing an infant into her crib. SAM massages his temples and blinks several times. The visions stop momentarily, but then return. A quick succession of images includes the woman opening a bedroom door to see a man standing over the crib. Another vision shows the woman looking out her window to watch a passing train. When the visions stop, SAM takes a map out of his bag, breathing heavily.
SAM
Train...
He unfolds the map and sees that a railroad runs past one of the streets in town. SAM walks away to find it.
CUT TO: Street
SAM is following the map and eventually finds the house from his visions. He looks around and sees the woman from his visions, MONICA, walking down the street, pushing a baby carriage and holding an umbrella. He walks over to her.
SAM
Hi.
He holds the baby carriage while she closes her umbrella.
SAM (cont'd)
Here, let me hold that. You don't need that anymore.
MONICA
Thanks.
They laugh. SAM looks at Rosie, the baby in the carriage.
SAM
She's gorgeous. Is she yours?
MONICA
Yeah.
SAM
Oh, wow.
(to Rosie)
Hi.
(to MONICA)
I'm sorry, I'm rude. I'm Sam. I just moved in up the block.
He shakes her hand.
MONICA
Oh, hey, I'm Monica. This is Rosie.
SAM
Rosie? Hi, Rosie.
MONICA
So, welcome to the neighborhood.
SAM
Thank you. She's such a good baby.
MONICA
I know. I mean, she never cries. She just stares at everybody. Sometimes she looks at you, and I swear, it's like she's reading your mind.
SAM
What about you, Monica? Have you lived here long?
MONICA
My husband and I, we bought our place just before Rosie was born.
SAM
How old is Rosie?
MONICA
She's six months today.
SAM is stunned and doesn't say anything.
MONICA (cont'd)
It's big, right? Growin' like a weed.
SAM smiles half-heartedly.
SAM
Yeah.
He doesn't say anything for a minute. MONICA is clearly confused by his behavior.
SAM (cont'd)
Monica?
MONICA
Yeah?
He pauses, looking sad.
SAM
Just take care of yourself, okay?
MONICA
Yeah. You, too, Sam. We'll see you around.
SAM
Yeah. Definitely.
He walks away. MONICA's husband pulls in the driveway.
MONICA
(to Rosie)
Oh, there's Daddy.
SAM watches them from across the street. Suddenly, more images begin flashing through his mind. SAM grimaces and clutches his head in pain. Then, the vision begins. In Rosie's nursery, the clock on the wall suddenly stops. Her mobile begins moving on its own. We see the shadow of a man walking towards Rosie's crib. Then, MONICA enters the room, dressed in a white nightgown. She sees the demon standing over the crib.
MONICA
What are you...?
The demon looks at her, and she is suddenly pinned against the wall. Unable to move, she is moved up to the ceiling as she begins to cry.
MONICA (cont'd)
Rosie! Rosie!
She continues to call Rosie's name. A pool of blood appears at MONICA's waist as she cries, helpless. The nursery goes up in flames.
INT. MOTEL ROOM
SAM is sitting at a table, massaging his temples. DEAN and JOHN are watching him as they sit on the beds.
JOHN
A vision?
SAM
Yes. I saw the demon burning a woman on the ceiling.
JOHN
And you think it's gonna happen to this woman you met because...?
SAM
Because these things happen exactly the way I see them.
DEAN
It started out as nightmares, and then he started havin' them when he was awake.
He gets up and walks to the other side of the room.
SAM
Yeah. It's like the closer I get to anything involving the demon, the stronger the visions get.
JOHN
All right, when were you gonna tell me about this?
DEAN
We didn't know what it meant.
JOHN
All right, something like this starts happening to your brother, you pick up the phone, and you call me.
DEAN
(walking over to JOHN)
Call you? Are you kiddin' me? Dad, I called you from Lawrence, all right? Sam called you when I was dying. Gettin' you on the phone- I've got a better chance of winnin' the lottery.
JOHN
(after a pause)
You're right. Although I'm not real crazy about this new tone of yours, you're right. I'm sorry.
SAM
Look, guys, visions or no visions, the fact is, we know the demon is coming tonight. And this family's gonna go through the same hell that we went through.
JOHN
No, they're not. No one is, ever again.
SAM's cell phone rings. He answers it. The scene alternates between the motel room and an unknown location.
SAM
Hello?
MEG
Sam?
SAM
Who is this?
MEG
Think real hard. It'll come to you.
SAM
(shocked)
Meg. Last time I saw you, you fell out of a window.
MEG
Yeah, thanks to you. That really hurt my feelings, by the way.
SAM
Just your feelings? That was a seven-story drop.
MEG
Let me speak to your dad.
SAM
My dad- I don't know where my dad is.
MEG
It's time for the grown-ups to talk, Sam. Let me speak to him, now.
SAM reluctantly hands the phone to JOHN.
JOHN
This is John.
MEG
Howdy, John. I'm Meg. I'm a friend of your boys. I'm also the one who watched Jim Murphy choke on his own blood.
JOHN looks as if he is about to cry.
MEG (cont'd)
Still there, John boy?
JOHN
I'm here.
MEG
Well, that was yesterday. Today, I'm in Lincoln... visiting another old friend of yours.
We see that CALEB is tied in a chair with a gag in his mouth.
MEG (cont'd)
He wants to say hi.
She takes the gag out of his mouth and holds the phone in front of him.
CALEB
John, whatever they do, don't give-
She takes the phone away.
JOHN
Caleb?
(DEAN and SAM look worried)
Caleb.
(to MEG)
You listen to me. He's got nothing to do with anything. You let him go.
MEG
We know you have the Colt, John.
JOHN
I don't know what you're talking about.
MEG
Oh. Okay. So, listen to this.
She slashes CALEB's throat. She lets JOHN listen to CALEB gagging before dying completely.
JOHN
Caleb? Caleb!
MEG takes the phone back.
MEG
Can you hear that? That's the sound of your friend dying, now let's try this again.
(JOHN is devastated)
We know you have the gun, John. Word travels fast. So, as far as we're concerned, you just declared war. And this is what war looks like- it has casualties.
JOHN
I'm gonna kill you, you know that?
MEG
Oh, John, please. Mind your blood pressure. So, this is the thing- we're gonna keep doing what we're doing, and your friends, anyone who has ever helped you, gave you shelter, anyone you ever loved- they'll all die unless you give us that gun.
(JOHN sighs)
I'm waiting, Johnny. Better answer before the buzzer.
JOHN
(quietly)
Okay.
MEG
Sorry? I didn't quite get that.
JOHN
I said okay. I'll bring you the Colt.
MEG
There's a warehouse in Lincoln, on the corner of Wabash and Lake. You're gonna meet me there.
JOHN
It's gonna take me about a day's drive to get there.
MEG
Meet me there at midnight tonight.
JOHN
That's impossible. I can't get there in time, and I can't just carry a gun on a plane.
MEG
Oh. Then I guess your friends die, don't they?
(JOHN sighs, frustrated)
If you do decide to make it, come alone.
She hangs up, and JOHN does the same. MEG turns to look at CALEB's dead body.
MEG
What the hell are you lookin' at?
She walks away. Back at the motel, JOHN is talking with DEAN and SAM.
SAM
So, you think Meg is a demon?
JOHN
Either that or she's possessed by one. It doesn't really matter.
DEAN
What do we do?
JOHN
I'm going to Lincoln.
DEAN
What?
JOHN
It doesn't seem like I have a choice. If I don't go, a lot of people die. Our friends die.
SAM
Dad, the demon is coming tonight for Monica and her family. That gun is all we've got. You can't just hand it over.
JOHN
Who said anything about handing it over? Look, besides us and a couple vampires, no one's really seen the gun. No one knows what it looks like.
DEAN
So, what, you're just gonna pick up a ringer at a pawn shop?
JOHN
Antique store.
DEAN
You're gonna hand Meg a fake gun and hope she doesn't notice?
JOHN
Look, as long as it's close, she shouldn't be able to tell the difference.
DEAN
Yeah, but for how long? What happens when she figures it out?
JOHN
I just- I just need to buy a few hours, that's all.
SAM
You mean for Dean and me.
(JOHN is silent)
You want us to stay here... and kill this demon by ourselves?
JOHN
No, Sam. I want to stop losing people we love. I want you to go to school. I want Dean to have a home.
He turns away from them, crying.
JOHN (cont'd)
I want Mary alive.
He turns back to them.
JOHN (cont'd)
I just... I just want this to be over.
SAM and DEAN exchange a tearful look.
EXT. ROAD
JOHN and SAM are at JOHN's truck, getting weapons ready. DEAN pulls up in his car, gets out, and approaches them.
JOHN
Did you get it?
DEAN pulls out the fake gun, wrapped in paper, and hands it to JOHN.
DEAN
You know this is a trap, don't you? That's why Meg wants you to come alone.
JOHN
I can handle her. I got a whole arsenal loaded- holy water, Mandaic amulets-
DEAN
Dad...
JOHN
What?
DEAN
Promise me something.
JOHN
What's that?
DEAN
This thing goes south, just get the hell out. Don't get yourself killed, all right? You're no good to us dead.
JOHN pauses briefly.
JOHN
Same goes for you. All right, listen to me.
He takes the real Colt out of his coat pocket.
JOHN (cont'd)
They made the bullets special for this Colt. There's only four of 'em left. Without 'em, this gun is useless. You make every shot count.
SAM
Yes, sir.
JOHN
I've been waiting a long time for this fight. Now it's here, and I'm not gonna be in it. It's up to you boys now. It's your fight. You finish this. You finish what I started. You understand?
They nod. JOHN hands the real Colt to DEAN, who puts it in his coat pocket.
SAM
(confidently)
We'll see you soon, Dad.
JOHN nods and smiles.
JOHN
I'll see you later.
He gets in his truck and drives away. DEAN and SAM watch him leave.
DEAN
Later.
EXT. WAREHOUSE - NIGHT
JOHN gets out of his truck, makes sure he has everything he needs, and continues on. He stops when he hears a noise. He notices a water tower on the roof of the warehouse.
INT. WAREHOUSE
JOHN is in the boiler room, making sure he has a way to turn on the water later.
EXT. MONICA'S HOUSE
DEAN and SAM are parked across the street, watching the house from inside the car.
SAM
Maybe we can tell them there's a gas leak. Might get 'em out of the house for a few hours.
DEAN
Yeah, and how many times has that actually worked for us?
SAM says nothing, defeated.
SAM
Could always tell 'em the truth.
DEAN gives him a knowing look.
DEAN
Nah.
SAM
I know. I know, I know. I just- with what's coming for these people-
DEAN
Sam, we've only got one move, and you know it, all right? We've got to wait for that demon to show itself, and then we get it before it gets them.
SAM nods.
SAM
I wonder how Dad's doing.
DEAN
I'd feel a lot better if we were there backin' him up.
SAM
I'd feel a lot better if he were here backin' us up.
They both say nothing and continue to watch the house.
EXT. WAREHOUSE
JOHN has reached the roof of the building. MEG is looking for him, but she does not notice him. When she does finally look to the roof, JOHN is not there. MEG walks away. JOHN comes out from behind the water tower and climbs the ladder leading to the top of it. He opens the top of the tower and takes out a set of rosary beads. He says a prayer in Latin and throws the blessed beads into the water, then closes the door of the water tower.
EXT. MONICA'S HOUSE
DEAN and SAM are still watching the house from their car.
SAM
This is weird.
DEAN
What?
SAM
After all these years, we're finally here. It doesn't seem real.
DEAN
We just got to keep our heads and do our job like always.
SAM
Yeah, but this isn't like always.
DEAN
True.
SAM
Dean, uh...
(DEAN turns to look at him)
I wanna thank you.
DEAN
For what?
SAM
For everything. You've always had my back, you know? Even when I couldn't count on anyone, I could always count on you. And now... I don't know, I just wanted to let you know- just in case.
DEAN
Whoa, whoa, whoa, are you kiddin' me?
SAM
What?
DEAN
Don't say, "Just in case somethin' happens to you", I don't wanna hear that freakin' speech, man. Nobody's dyin' tonight. Not us, not that family, nobody- except that demon. That evil son of a bitch ain't gettin' any older than tonight, you understand me?
SAM nods, and they resume watching the house.
INT. WAREHOUSE
MEG turns and sees JOHN standing several feet away.
MEG
John, you made it. Too bad, really. I was hoping to kill more of your friends.
JOHN
Sorry to disappoint.
MEG
I can see where your boys get their good looks. But I must admit, considering what they say about you, I thought you'd be... taller.
(JOHN says nothing)
Well, aren't you the chatty one? You wanna get to business? Fine.
(She moves closer to him)
Why don't you hand over the gun?
JOHN
If I give you the gun, how do I get out of here?
MEG
Well, if you're as good as they say you are, I'm sure you'll figure something out.
JOHN
Maybe I'll just shoot you.
MEG
You wanna shoot me, baby? Go ahead. It won't end anything. There's more where I came from.
TOM, her handsome accomplice, comes into the room.
JOHN
Who the hell's that?
MEG
He's not nearly as much fun as I am, I can tell you that. So, I suggest you give us the gun.
(JOHN does not move)
Now!
JOHN takes the fake gun out of his pocket and hands it to her. She examines it.
MEG (cont'd)
This is the Colt?
(He nods. She hands it to TOM)
What do you think?
TOM takes it from her. He looks at it closely, then, surprisingly, shoots MEG. She stumbles backwards, but is unharmed.
MEG (cont'd)
You shot me! I can't believe you just shot me!
TOM
It's a fake.
He throws the gun to the side. MEG glares at JOHN.
FADE OUT
INT. WAREHOUSE
JOHN is still standing with MEG and TOM.
MEG
You're dead, John. Your boys are dead.
JOHN
I never used the gun. How could I know it wouldn't work?
MEG
I'm so not in the mood for this. I've just been shot!
JOHN
Well, then, I guess you're lucky the gun wasn't real.
MEG
That's funny, John. We're gonna strip the skin from your bones, but that was funny.
For a moment, MEG looks at TOM. While she is looking away, JOHN is able to run into another room. He locks the door behind himself and opens a trapdoor leading into the boiler room. MEG and TOM follow him. JOHN turns on the faucet, and water comes spraying out at MEG and TOM. They keep walking, thinking they will be unharmed. However, when TOM steps in the water, his shoes begin to sizzle and burn. He jumps back in pain.
MEG (cont'd)
Holy water, John. Real cute.
JOHN smiles and leaves the warehouse.
EXT. MONICA'S HOUSE
DEAN and SAM are still watching the house from inside their car. DEAN is trying to call JOHN.
DEAN
Dad's not answering.
He hangs up.
SAM
Maybe Meg was late. Maybe cell reception's bad.
DEAN
Yeah, well...
He goes silent. Suddenly, the car radio turns to static.
SAM
Dean, wait. Listen.
They try to tune the radio, but the reception is completely gone. The leaves outside begin to blow around. The lights in the house begin to flicker rapidly. DEAN and SAM exchange a knowing look.
SAM (cont'd)
It's coming.
They get out of the car.
EXT. WAREHOUSE
JOHN goes to his truck to find that his tires have been slashed.
JOHN
Damn it.
He looks around, trying to find another way out.
INT. MONICA'S HOUSE
DEAN picks the lock, and he and SAM enter the house. After a moment, MONICA's husband, CHARLIE, enters with a baseball bat. He swings at DEAN, but DEAN pins him against the wall.
CHARLIE
Get out of my house! Get out of my house!
SAM
Mr. Holt, please.
DEAN
Be quiet and listen to me. We're trying to help you, okay?
MONICA O.S
Charlie, is everything okay down there?
CHARLIE
Monica, get the baby!
SAM
No, don't go in the nursery!
CHARLIE
You stay away from her!
MONICA enters the nursery. Just like in SAM's vision, the demon is standing over Rosie's crib.
MONICA
What are you...?
When the demon looks at her, MONICA gets pinned to the wall. Just as she is being raised to the ceiling, SAM enters the room. The demon turns to look at him. Its eyes are a fiery orange. SAM raises the gun and shoots the demon, but it dissolves into a cloud of black smoke. When it disappears, MONICA falls to the floor.
SAM
Where the hell did it go?
He helps MONICA to her feet and starts to take her out of the room. DEAN runs into the nursery.
MONICA
My baby!
SAM
Dean's got her.
DEAN picks up Rosie and takes her out of the crib just as it goes up in flames.
EXT. WAREHOUSE
JOHN stops running and realizes he has nowhere to go. He takes out his cell phone. As he is dialing, he is suddenly pinned against a wall by an invisible force. He screams in protest. TOM comes out from behind the building and walks over to JOHN. Still pinned to the wall, he raises a few feet off the ground and continues to cry in pain.
EXT. MONICA'S HOUSE
Monica's House. The bedroom window explodes, sending glass and debris everywhere. SAM and MONICA come out of the house, followed by DEAN, who is carrying Rosie. CHARLIE is outside.
CHARLIE
You get away from my family!
MONICA
Charlie, don't! They saved us.
(She takes Rosie from DEAN)
They saved us.
(CHARLIE kisses her forehead)
Thank you.
SAM turns and looks up at the bedroom window. His eyes widen. The silhouette of the demon can be seen at the window.
SAM
It's still in there.
He moves to go back into the house, but DEAN stops him.
DEAN
Sam, no!
They wrestle with each other for a minute.
SAM
Dean, let me go! It's still in there!
DEAN
Burning to the ground- it's suicide!
SAM
I don't care!
DEAN
I do!
They let go of each other. They look up at the window and see the demon once more before it disappears. Both of them continue staring, angry.
INT. MOTEL ROOM
DEAN is trying to call JOHN again, while SAM sits on the bed.
DEAN
Come on, Dad. Answer your phone, damn it.
(He hangs up)
Something's wrong.
(SAM doesn't answer)
You hear me? Something's happened.
SAM
If you had just let me go in there, I could have ended all this.
DEAN
Sam, the only thing you would have ended was your life.
SAM
You don't know that.
DEAN
So, what, you're just willing to sacrifice yourself, is that it?
SAM
(standing up)
Yeah. Yeah, you're damn right I am.
DEAN
Yeah, well, that's not gonna happen- not as long as I'm around.
SAM
What the hell are you talkin' about, Dean? We've been searching for this demon our whole lives. It's the only thing we've ever cared about.
DEAN
Sam, I wanna waste it. I do, okay? But it's not worth dyin' over.
SAM
What?
DEAN
I mean it. If huntin' this demon means you gettin' yourself killed, then I hope we never find the damn thing.
SAM
That thing killed Jess. That thing killed Mom.
DEAN
You said yourself once... that no matter what we do, they're gone. And they're never comin' back.
Suddenly, SAM grabs DEAN by his shirt and pins him up against the wall.
SAM
Don't you say that! Don't you- not after all this, don't you say that!
DEAN
(emotionally)
Sammy, look... the three of us- that's all we have. And that's all I have. Sometimes I feel like I'm barely holdin' it together, man.
SAM, with tears in his eyes, lets go of DEAN.
SAM (cont'd)
Without you and Dad...
SAM turns away from DEAN.
SAM
Dad...
They are both silent for a minute.
SAM (cont'd)
He should have called by now. Try him again.
DEAN picks up his cell phone and dials JOHN's number. The scene alternates between the motel room and the warehouse, where MEG answers the phone.
MEG
You boys really screwed up this time.
DEAN is infuriated.
DEAN
Where is he?
MEG
You're never gonna see your father again.
DEAN and SAM exchange a look of concern and anger.
