I WANT TO HELP WITH TRANSCRIPTIONS

Well, I'd first like to thank you for wanting to do this. We're a very small team as of right now so any contribution is greatly appreciated!

Before you definitely decide that you want to do this, please read the following.
To transcribe takes a lot of time, energy, and dedication from a person. You can expect at least two days per episode, depending on how much time you spend each day. Transcribing demands a lot of attention from a person as some dialogue can be very hard to hear and you also need to describe what is going on in the scene to make the reader understand what is happening. Remember, some of the episode transcripts are of shows that are still running and some fans show up to read before they watch an episode because they might live outside the U.S. Therefor putting down details and corrent information is very important.

You can expect being forced to re-watch a scene or just a dialogue exchange at least 5 - 6 times depending on how much the actor is mumbling. Their voice can also be very low and that makes it hard to make out what they're saying. For example, Supernatural can be very hard in this department as both Jensen and Jared's voices are rather low and if there is a lot of background noise, they can be hard to make out. The actors can also be talking at a very high speed, as in Gilmore Girls for example. There you get almost double the dialogue per episode than on any other show with the same runtime per episode.

Going back and re-watching a scene 2-3 times after you've finished transcribing is also a good idea. It helps you catch what you've missed in the dialogue and maybe add some surrounding actions to the script.

One of the hardest rules I hold here is how you break down your transcript. You need to type up the transcripts as they are made to look on the site, it provides a much easier read document and softer on the eyes. It is also easier to find specific scenes and dialogue when going through the episodes. So read a few transcripts to understand how they are supposed to be built. It's not hard once you get into it. you just need to get it right from the start and then it'll flow like that naturally for you.

Now, if I haven't scared you off from your offer, please contact me at dana[AT]thedudes[DOT]nu with the subject "Roadhouse: Contributing Transcripts". Put down which show you want to do and how many episodes you're available for. I also ask that you supply a written example of your transcribing work to show that you have understanding to how I want the transcripts built and that you're thorough enough.

To end this, do NOT offer your services if you don't intend to follow up and actually do the work. This will only lead to angry emails and being banned from ever to participate in the site again!
